Although the Position of Women in Society Today Has Improved, There Is Still a Great Deal of Sexual Discrimination
Although the position of women in society today has improved, there is still a great deal of sexual discrimination
All over the world, women have played significant roles in their countries' development. They have contributed to the economic growth of their country by taking care of their families and working in and owning businesses. They have worked as doctors, teachers, electricians and artists. Women have even been prime ministers of countries. Unfortunately, not every society values the role women play and discriminates women in different ways.
First of all, I it is imperative to emphasize the characteristics that make women and men so different. It is more than obvious that by nature's default, women and men were given different features. In fact, people are having their own particularities that make each individual unique. Only known facts so far, but what I need to say is that these natural differences cannot be allowed to be the reason of social discrimination. For example, it is normal for a woman not to be wanted as a carpenter, as women have less physical strength. But if the woman not only that she proves the opposite, but she also proves to be talented for the job, I cannot see any reason for her not to become a carpenter. This kind of discriminations can't be allowed when it comes to natural differences between men and women.
Secondly many people judge women as responsible for everything and forget that men are also guilty. Thousands of legal cases of domestic violence are seen throughout the country. Men usually just walk away from the situation but women have to choose to either have the baby or have it "aborted". Women have made vast improvements in their lifestyles in the past few decades from holding positions in governments to simple things like getting a job and supporting themselves. All in all women will always be a big factor in society and the way it affects the world. People also say that the baby is not yet developed and the women

Through out history, society has stereotyped women, making it merely impossible for women to achieve her goals and desires in life. In life and in this county women have always been treated as second best by biased men. Women have always been treated like they are never good enough for careers outside of the home. The sex of a person should not determine what type of duties or what kind of job a person will have. It should be up to a person's own will not the decisions of society.…

Women today have the right to get a higher education if they want; they are in high ranking positions within our government and military. Women today are not looked at as just a house wife, in today’s trend we are seeing more and more men staying home to run the household. Women today also do not just have jobs in a so called “women’s job”, for example if a women wants to be a welder, or a mechanic she can be. Those are two jobs that when people picture that worker it is usually a man but not anymore. Even though women have made a lot of changes the biggest thing that they are fighting for now is equal pay. A lot of the jobs tend to pay women less money than men. Female business majors, for example, earned a little over $38,000, while men earned more than $45,000 (Ellis, 2012).You see a lot of concepts or constructions of masculinity and femininity in media but not so much in society. The media has a lot for commercials that can be focused on gender related products. Even though the product is mad for a man you will not see a woman as the character in the advertising and the same for women. Now society on the other hand has evolved so that there are not gender specific roles, as a large amount of women have what was once a man’s job such as an engineer or a firefighter. When we refer to what society has deemed gender specific that is hard as the lines are somewhat blurred because gender does not play as much…

Although gender discrimination is hidden with the other social norms, it is present and has a great impact on the daily lives of both men and women. Sexism has a similar effect on society like bacteria; while it may be beneficial for some, it can be harmful to others. This concept is what creates the significant gap between genders, while giving the impression that one gender, generally the male, is superior to the other. Sexism has made its way into a part of daily life; it is simply inevitable for the general population to follow the typical roles, established since the beginnings of the development of humanity. The basic foundations of the roles of men and women are heavily influenced by sexism; therefore, gender discrimination is clearly…

Women have fought throughout history in order to achieve different roles as well as to acquire recognition, independence, equality and respect. It has not been easy since they have had many barriers to overcome; their role in the family as wives, mothers and daughters; their role in society fighting for their rights, being heard and treated as men; their role as career women, not only receiving an education but also being able to work.…

In day to day life, people judge and make biases with every person they meet. It can be on the way someone walks, the way they speak, or just how they carry themselves. Anything and everything that is seen is up for grabs. That's the way people have been for decades. But the most prominent is between genders. For years, men have had advantages women were simply denied. In the early 1900’s women were treated incredibly unfairly to today’s standards. For instance, they couldn’t vote, one of the most basic rights in this country. Also, they weren’t as educated as men during this time so as to stay at home and be a stay-at-home wife. Women also had hard times finding decent jobs, as most of them were hired in factories or as servants in houses. It took half a century for a change in their outlook as they became able to have birth control in the 1960s. This allowed them to be able to become more educated since they didn't have to focus on a family, helped them get jobs, and become part of the workforce. Women even gained the right to vote. This may seem like there's not much else to fix, but it is still a part of our daily lives and still needs plenty of work before we can ever consider being anywhere near close to equality.…

Throughout time, women have always been seen as the weaker sex of the human race. Not only have they been considered weaker, but also intellectually inferior to men. Women were considered to be better suited for roles inside the home as a wife and a mother. They have had fewer legal rights and career opportunities. In the 20th century, women won the right to vote and also increased their educational and job opportunities. With these opportunities, women have merged onto the workforce and political stages.…

The role and status of women in our society has changed noticeably over the last 150 years. Women had very few legal rights and most societies placed women in an inferior positions compared to that of men. Women were also held to be less intelligent and less creative by nature. This was evident through out many fields such as employment, although over the years many non-legal and legal actions have taken place to change and move women towards equality.…

In Western Europe, women worked hard to make changes to their subservient roles. They had very few rights. They were able to participate in political discussions and could work in small business if alongside her husband and only if she was of lower class. They could not vote, divorce or work in political office. When the “Declaration of Rights of Man and Citizen” was written, the women fired back with…

For many centuries, women have had to fight for their rights. In today’s society, women are still discriminated against in the workplace. Generations of women have sacrificed for woman today to have the opportunity to be able to have a voice on what they want to do in life. In the workforce, women make up 47% of the United States workforce (“Women's Bureau (WB) - Quick Facts on Women in the Labor Force in 2010"). This is almost half but yet they are paid less than men. Men are often bound to receive a promotion, transfer, and compensation before women. The broader problems of obvious discrimination against women in the workforce have been dealt with for centuries. Across the world, women are discriminated against in the workforce through family…

The professional football industry is a perfect example. It is common knowledge that women cannot play football as well as men, but when looking at the amount of money ploughed into the male dominated Premier League, funding for womens football is spare change in comparison. This can be used as an analogy for the discrimination that women encounter economically. Cases emerge where companies seem to be going to extra lengths to pay women less, the glass ceiling is still rife in the workplace, and of course sexual harassment is all too common. This is all illogical, unreasonable bigotry, but if this is so, why is it still so normal in our culture? What exactly makes it so impossible for women to be considered on the same level as men? This brings up the initial statement. Undoubtedly, we are all separated by our biological differences, but not necessarily just between the sexes. All men are not stronger than all women. Of course, at Olympian level, the differences are clearer. A male sprinter at the peak of his physical ability will still run faster than his female counterpart. However, the difference at this extreme level is still only slight and cannot be helped. Genetically, men have a different role to women, being the hunter and protector, and the woman the mother and gatherer. This however, has no place in modern Britain, and surely the ability to warp these animal characteristics is what separates humans from other…

According to James Henslin, gender is the primary division between people (p. 294). Sociologists classify females as the minority group even though there is more women than men in the world. Women are sometimes treated differently than men. Some believe that women are delicate and can’t do the job of men. Back in the days, women were treated badly. They were only allowed to stay home and take care of their children. Until 1920, women had the rights to do what men do. They were able to work and vote. Gender discrimination is in everyday life. We can see it in school and jobs. For example, sometimes people make comments that offend women. Coaches will call the boy girl names, if they don’t play a certain sport right. So in order to motivate them, they will either say “you play like a girl” or they shout “they’re wearing skirts” (Henslin, p. 304). With this we can see that people think women are weak and can’t do things right. We can also see gender discrimination in the work force. According to Joseph E. Stiglitz (2013), women are paid less than men. On average, women make 72 percent of what men make having a full time job in the United States (Henslin, p. 300). Many question why females get paid less than men. According to Jacobs (2003), women are more likely to choose low paying jobs such as teaching, and men go for better paying jobs like business or engineering (p. 312). With this I feel that…
