Always Running
Always Running is an autobiography written by Luis J. Rodriguez. The setting takes place in California, for the most part takes place in east of Los Angeles, Watts a neighborhood that was designated "as one of the 10 poorest in the country." The protagonist in this autobiography is Luis he is also the narrator, and the antagonist in autobiography is the gang life. The autobiography basically covers the life of a boy who grows up to his teens named Luis. At the beginning Luis has a very unstable life because his parents were constantly moving. There was not a stable place he could call home throughout his childhood his family left to ciudad Juarez, then to Chihuahua and that's when the parents, with plans moved into the U.S., knew that children born there automatically obtained their citizenship. The family finally ended up in Los Angeles, Watts on 105th street near McKinley Ave having trouble finding steady jobs, there house stayed cold since they couldn't find steady jobs the family was poor. Luis lived there with his parents Alfonso & Maria, his older brother Jose and his sisters Ana and Gloria. Luis was six year old when his Mama first took him to school, Luis hadn't even gone to kindergarten. It was difficult for Luis to stay in school, because Mexican students were always treated as second-rate. Both language and ethnic differences added to this. The family was always changing houses because of evictions which sent them to San Fernando Valley to a house in the city of Reseda them being the only Mexican family around but that dream ended and went back to East Los Angels. The title Always Running all began when Luis and Tino trespassed to play basketball and the sheriff started chasing them and they started running. Towards the middle, Luis grows up always running from police or gangs. His best friend Tino dies
