Always Running

Always Running is an autobiography written by Luis J. Rodriguez. The setting takes place in California, for the most part takes place in east of Los Angeles, Watts a neighborhood that was designated "as one of the 10 poorest in the country." The protagonist in this autobiography is Luis he is also the narrator, and the antagonist in autobiography is the gang life. The autobiography basically covers the life of a boy who grows up to his teens named Luis. At the beginning Luis has a very unstable life because his parents were constantly moving. There was not a stable place he could call home throughout his childhood his family left to ciudad Juarez, then to Chihuahua and that's when the parents, with plans moved into the U.S., knew that children born there automatically obtained their citizenship. The family finally ended up in Los Angeles, Watts on 105th street near McKinley Ave having trouble finding steady jobs, there house stayed cold since they couldn't find steady jobs the family was poor. Luis lived there with his parents Alfonso & Maria, his older brother Jose and his sisters Ana and Gloria. Luis was six year old when his Mama first took him to school, Luis hadn't even gone to kindergarten. It was difficult for Luis to stay in school, because Mexican students were always treated as second-rate. Both language and ethnic differences added to this. The family was always changing houses because of evictions which sent them to San Fernando Valley to a house in the city of Reseda them being the only Mexican family around but that dream ended and went back to East Los Angels. The title Always Running all began when Luis and Tino trespassed to play basketball and the sheriff started chasing them and they started running. Towards the middle, Luis grows up always running from police or gangs. His best friend Tino dies

The book, Last Man Out by Mike Lupica, is a very unique book and I would recommend it to anyone who loves sports, especially football, to read it. The setting of this book is in present-day Boston. The main character is Tommy Gallagher, a 12 year-old boy who loves to play football. The rising action of this book would be that Tommy’s father died because of a fire at a house that he was called to. Because of this Tommy’s sister, Emily, stopped playing the sport she was so good at. Tommy tried to persuade her to keep playing. Tommy kept playing football and kept making…

Enrique bounces around from Guatemala, to Mexico, as he is determined to be with his mother. I think the author wrote this book to show the struggles that are really happening in Central America. This book is non-fiction, and thus the horrid stories of gang beatings, corrupt cops, drug addiction, and violence are all very real, and influential. The book also puts American…

THE BOOK IS SPLIT IN TWO HALVES. THE FIRST PART IS ESSENTIALLY THE BACKGROUND STORY OF GARCIA AND HIS TRAVELS. I BELIEVED THIS PART TO BE LEAST EFFECTIVE BECAUSE IT DID NOT HAVE A GREAT DEAL OF THE AUTHOR’S OPINION OR EMOTION INVOLVED.THE SECOND HALF IS THE AUTHOR'S DEFINITION OF THE TRUE HARD WORKING MAN, AN INDIVIDUAL TRULY WORTH HIS SALT. IT FULLY ENCOMPASSES THE MAIN POINT OF THE STORY…

Life on the Color Line is a memoir by Gregory Howard Williams talking about his life and what it was like to grow up in Muncie, Indiana as a white colored boy. It starts off in Virginia where the Williams family owns and lives in an Open House Cafe for all the war soldiers and veterans black and white alike. Since they were “on the color line” of Virginia bordering between white and black neighborhoods, Greg’s father Buster was able to house both colors in the bar and keep them separated even though it was technically against the law to serve blacks and whites under the same roof. Buster was half black and half white but in order to protect his reputation passed as an Italian, making the boys think they too were part Italian. It wasn’t until the brutal divorce of their parents that Greg and his brother Mike discovered that they were actually half Black. At such a young age, Greg and Mike had to accept that the comfort they once experienced living as white boys in a white neighborhood would change as they moved to the ghetto in Muncie.…

He represents a metaphorical outlook on life. He appears to possess an eternal struggle and continues to attempt to run away from his inner demons. Getting no further, nor closer to them, his feat is inherently fruitless. This is evidenced within the text, whereby Tom Leyton says, ”I’m just saying that maybe your Running Man is like that … running from something … some hell … that he carries around inside him … a hell that he can never escape … no matter how far or fast he runs.”…

Luis is a troubled kid. He was actually quite normal for many years until his mother died from cancer. He became angry and started hanging out with the wrong people. Luis even made his own gang called the Tiburones, which means sharks in Spanish. He even went to juvenile hall when he broke into an old lady's house on a dare. He didn't steal anything he just did it for the rush. Jing-Mei, the main character in the short story "Two Kinds", was a little Chinese girl to start off the book but later grew up and went to college. When Jing-Mei…

Luis Asperri is the product of the abovementioned affair. He spent his boyhood with his mother in Sipnget but later on lived with Don Vicente in Manila. There he studied and became a journalist. His character presents several ironies, which is, I think, a representation of man’s defeat in his battle against himself. The novel opened with Luis being so passionate of the people he spent his childhood with. But upon seeing them again, he felt it was futile visiting them and that it was hypocrisy. Don Vicente wants Luis to marry his cousin, Trining. But in the early parts of the novel, Luis seemed to care less for her. Later, he began expressing his earthly desires.…
