Am Offering This Poem, Ode To My Socks, And All Of Me
I selected “I am Offering This Poem,” Ode to My Socks,” and “Bonny Barbara Allan” for all having a common theme. I also selected “All of Me” by John Legend, “The Gift” by Jim Brickman, and “Don’t Let Me Down” by the Chainsmokers. The common theme of all of these is love. Love is an intense feeling of deep affection, and all three of these poems, and songs contain the definition of love.

First, I found a connection with the poem “I Am Offering This Poem” and song “All of Me” by John Legend. In “I Am Offering This Poem” Jimmy Santiago Baca writes, “I have nothing else to give you.” In this poem the poet has nothing else left to give her because he gave her all his love in the poem. In the song “All of Me” by John Legend, he sings, “Cause all

In the poem “Ode to My Socks,” the poet writes, “I resisted the mad impulse to put them into a golden cage.” In this poem the poet loves his handmade socks from Maru so much that he doesn't want to wear the pair of socks because of how warm and soft they are. In the song “The Gift” Jim sings, “You gave your love away .... for the gift.” In this song it delivers a message of putting love into people, and also gifts. Then receiving those gifts of love back. In both the poem, and the song, they put their love into a form of a gift. Which then gives the person receiving the gift the same feelings of deep affection of the creator. Another connection I made between the song and poem is when Jim Brickman sang, “But the colors will fade away.” And when the poet writes, “Like explores in the jungle who have over the very rare green deer to the spit and eat it with remorse.” In both it describes how the socks and deer meat will not be warm, and tasty forever before it spoiled, but the love and taste for them will never …show more content…
In the poem “Bonny Barbara Allan” the poet writes, “Will save me from my dying.” In this poem William loves Barbara Allan, but is denied by Barabara for a kiss to save him from dying. In the song “Don’t Let Me Down” the Chainsmokers sing, “Stranded, reaching out, I call your name, but you're not around. In the song they don’t want their companion to let them down, and not love them. In both the poem, and the song they want their love of their life to love them back. Another connection I made with the song and poem is when the Chainsmokers sang, “That you’ll be here, when I need you the most.” And the poet wrote, “I’ll die for him tomorrow.” In the end they both needed each other to live, therefore Barbara died for William, and after that the rose and the briar ran round each

In Osip Mandelstam’s poem numbered “300”, and in Marina Tsvetaeva’s poem “you loved me” both speakers are struggling with a loss of love. For Tsvetaeva’s speaker, the loss stems directly from a love built in a relationship and partner and the sudden feeling of betrayal and loss. For Mandelstam’s speaker however, the loss of love is in that of his friends and family, and not in that of an intimate relationship. They have betrayed his trust, and left him in a life of solitude and loneliness. Both speakers are encountering a powerful loss of something they care about and in their poems they are showing their resiliency and rebuttal towards that loss. This rebuttal comes from a place of isolation and understanding. It is only through recognition…

What is love? Love is a very special and meaningful word to each human being. Unconditional love is a special type of love that can happen when each person accepts each others without hesitation. In most families, the bond between parents and child is one of unconditional love. However, not all families' relationships are ideal. In the two short stories "Shopping" by Joyce Carol Oates and "Song of Songs" by Ellen Gilchrist, the main characters in each are lacking a sense of real love in their souls. They both experience emptiness in their hearts and are searching for unconditional love to fulfill their lives. Both women in the stories have suffered losses within their families. One has lost the love of a teenaged daughter who has gone astray. The other lost contact with her mother at an early age and is experiencing a lack of belonging.…

These are some similarities in “To my dear and loving husband” and “The crucible”. They both are talking about love and how much they adore each other in their relationship. In the poem she was telling us how she loves her husband and how she wouldn't trade him for money or gold. She also said that “the heavens reward thee manifold”which means she hopes god sends him blessings because he is really showing her that he loves her and really wants to be with her and she adores him,she wouldn't be able to repay him for all the loving he has given her.…

Much like poetry, “Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent.” Music and poetry are two platforms in which artists from the beginning of time have chosen to circulate their ideas, feelings, and opinions. Although different in popularity, these mediums are alike in various ways. Nonetheless, not every song you hear on the radio can be properly analyzed using procedures that you would follow to evaluate poetry. A song has to contain certain literary elements essential to poetry, such as the song “From Eden” by Hozier, in order for it to be analyzed. Hozier is recognized for his sentimental lyrics and use of poetic elements to add musicality and rhythm to his music. Through symbolism, repetition, and…

When the reader first reads this short story, it is puzzling and random, but as it is read multiple times you begin to understand Browns’ writing style and her unusual development. The reader starts to recognize that the songs represent certain moments of a person’s life when they are at a particular stage in love. For example, a person starts out alone in life, “’All By Myself (Eric Carmen)” (1). Then a person begins the torturous hunt for love, “’Looking for Love (Lou Reed)” (1). When a person finally finds that one person, they begin to become physical with one another and become even more attached to that one special person, perhaps hey even begin a relationship, “’Let’s Talk About Sex” (Salt N’ Peppa)” (3). “’I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend (The Ramones)” (4). The establishment of every relationship is the best part and the happiest time for the couple, therefore the cheeriest and sweetest songs are the beginning of this short story.…

The poet also uses imagery such as ‘lakes and ‘swans’, to symbolise the peacefulness, and also to symbolise love. You notice words that show the subject is not alone, with ‘we’ and ‘our’. These words and also the motion of the swans, the lake, and the peacefulness are foreshadowing that the poem will take a turning onto love that is more literate. However I don’t think that the poems theme is so much about love in particular, but about a natural love, a natural pull that brings two people together even after hard times.…

“As it rained the evening when you left, and I was sad” you told me that, or perhaps you sang those words while your mind deranged was looking for an inspiration, a light, or just the right words to define your tormented and noisy soul, you looked the perfect way tell me that you would leave me, that you would lose yourself in the way of your follies where others were already sailing aimlessly, and I couldn’t rescue you from that place. You sang until the end of your moons, the end of your emotions, those emotions that we never shared, and we never will. However and after your heartless speech I told you a story, the story of two brother who were lost in the incomprehensibility of one of them and the intolerance of another, I told you the story of Sonny’s Blues by James Baldwin, but you stayed singing “This is my punishment, crazy little heart, It kills my soul so little by little I lose sleep, it has never hurt so much, and this suffering is killing me”. (Concha Buika-Culpa Mia Song)…

My most listened to song is Alex Days and Carrie Hope Fletcher’s rendition of Faith Hill’s “This Kiss”. It tells of a story about two people who fall in love. Before they found each other, they were hurt by previous relationships but when they meet, they spark an indescribable romance. Throughout the song, they symbolize their love by their kiss. This song does support my values of commitment, happiness, and love.…

The conversational style of the song in some ways makes it more personal for the listener who can relate in some ways to conversations had with past men. The most obvious theme in the song is isolation. This is noted with the repeating of the words “… making me feel like I’ve never been born”. This is a simple statement that carries with it a meaning to deep for so few words. The other lyrics of the song are a conversation between one woman who already feels isolated and one man who is feeling the same because she no longer wants to be with him. “She said "I know what it's like to be dead. I know what it is to be sad" And she's making me feel like I've never been born. … I said "Who put all those things in your head? Things that make me feel that I'm mad And you're making me feel like I've never been born."”. One says that she wants to leave because she feels that this man is causing her isolation. The man feels she is being influenced and is lost to her ideas that his making her feel depressed. The very thought of this is madness to him. Breaking up is never easy; the heartache that people feel may not be as epic or as sad as Eleanor Rigby, but the feelings of isolation are still true to…

Have you ever felt the suffering of someone just by listening to a song? Here, there are two different songs, ‘’Funeral Blues’’ by Nemo Shaw and ‘’Don’t You Remember?’’ by Adele. Talk about the loss of a loved one, but in two different ways. ‘’Funeral Blues’’ the lyrics are addressed to the singer himself; in contrast, ‘’Don´t You Remember?’’ is addressed to the person who left her (the song writer). ‘’Funeral Blues’’ was written because someone died: on the other hand, ‘’don’t You Remember?’’ was written because someone left. These songs are different not only because of the message that comes with it, but also because of its components, such as stanzas, refrains, rhyme and the music.…
