Author Ambrose Bierce, who is considered one of the Great American, wrote during the realism period. Particularly in his titled “Owl Creek Bridge”, written in 1890 we can see evidence of the characteristics, theme and style identified with the realism movement which was extant in American letters between 1850 and 1900. As a representative of such a movement, Ambrose Bierce then remains one of the most identifiable and iconic writers of his time.
Ambrose Bierce was born on June 24, 1842, in Meigs country, Ohio. He worked as a printers apprentice and was enlisted in the Civil war. He worked a journalist, and a short story writer. He wrote about his experiences during his time in the civil war. He wrote in vivid detail. In 1913 he went to Mexico, during the revolution led by Pancho villa, he disappeared sometime in 1914. His death was unknown. Ambrose Bierce wrote during the Realism period. The literally movement is characterized by the actualities of any aspect of life. It emphasis what changes such as the aftermath of the Civil war in the United States. Realism writers explain we are in control of our own destiny and are superior to their circumstance.
