America vs Philippines
The freedom for the Philippines came from the blood shed on the battlefield between the Spanish and American armies. It all started in the year of 1898. The United States was fed up with the horrible treatment the Philippines and Cuba was getting from the Spanish. Later on, in 1899, the U.S. defeated the Spanish and won over the two territories. It was decided to let Cuba become its own country and annex the Philippines. The U.S. should not have annexed the Philippines because it is against the constitution, the U.S. was being hypocritical and Abe Lincoln didn’t want it.

D William Jennings Bryan states “ dare not educate them lest they learn to read the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States and mock us for our inconsistency” (Bryan 153). In this quote Bryan states that if we teach the Filipinos how to read the might find that the U.S. is going against its constitution to annex the Philippines. In Doc A he infers “no man is good enough to govern another man without that other’s consent . . .” (Lincoln 147). He is saying that no one is good enough to rule over other people without their permission. This quote relates to the annexation of the Philippines because the U.S. was doing exactly what Lincoln didn’t want. They were annexing the Philippines without their permission.
