Nowadays, people are more aware of how their basic human rights should be respected than they used to. For example, three hundred years ago, people were put to death just for stealing and it was not judged as morally wrong. This is not allowed anymore because we value life more than we used to. We understand how important life is and we respect it. Today we also believe that a nations control within their own borders is not as important as human rights. In today's world, democracy, or "rule by the people," is seen as the best form of government to have because the government is getting its power from the people. If the government is not protecting the people, then it is not doing its job and other countries have a duty to step in.
