The truth being that gaining success in America is very hard, especially coming from a foreign country and not being familiar with the land and culture. [Transition]Furthermore, [Second Attack] some followers of the glamorized American Dream even proceed to leave their family behind in order to secure a job and use their earned money to support their family back home. [Development] Though there is good-nature behind this notion, many cannot land a job well-paying enough to even support themselves in America and provide for their family back home and become trapped without the ability to get an education or climb higher in the job rankings. This presents problems such as a young child not being able to see their mother or father for years or even for the entirety of their lives because their parent is stuck in a foreign country due to financial constraints or even because that came to America illegally to fulfill the so-called “American Dream;” therefore, hindering them unable to return to their loved ones without facing the legal consequences later on. [Signal Shift] While this may be more than possible for many not experiencing deep poverty, [First Attack] a vast amount of minorities and foreigners make up majority of the population that is in poverty, showing their inability to live their American Dream. [Development] In 2013, the amount of Blacks in poverty was 27% and Hispanics were 24% while their non-ethnic counterparts were only of 10%, a large difference regarding the population of America (Poverty). []Racial disadvantage or the many difficulties faced by immigrants as well as minorities, the possibility of an American Dream begins to seem more like luck than freedom in opportunity. [Transition]Additionally, [Second Attack] the widening gap between the rich and the poor make it increasingly hard for the immigrants, who must start at the bottom of the economic pyramid, to climb their way to success. [Development]With the average business CEO making 354 times more than their average worker and the top .01 percentile earning more than the lower ninety percentile of Americans, it seems very impractical for someone to scale their way up the social ladder from the abyss of poverty (Salles).
