By 1877 I was better and moved to Dansville. I wrote to my friend who worked for the International Red Cross and explained my four-year illness. Then I met with government officials and asked them to see the benefit of the American Red Cross. Next I gave small talks about it and made brochures and also met with president Hayes. When Garfield became president I talked with him about it in 1880, he liked the idea of it. Then president Garfield showed it to James G. Blaine and he also liked the idea of it. Now on May 12, 1881 I began to ask people if they were interested in it. On May 21,1881 I had 22 workers who worked with me in the American Red Cross. The American Red Cross was helpful, we went and helped out where there was disasters. I ended up retiring at the age of 84 and a male was the new president . I died on April 12, 1912 in Glen Echo, Maryland. When I died my last words were "let me go! let me go! " . When I was in my 80's I made a book called " A Story of the American Red Cross" and in 1907 I made a book called " The Story of My Childhood" . To the American Red Cross I was known as a " visionary leader" . (Bow) , (sit
