After the Revolution the Thirteen Colonies were no longer under rule by monarchy, and France was no longer under rule by absolute monarchy. A new country came about, the United States of America. The United States, the first democracy in several years since ancient times, was established. While the United States was a functioning democracy with a stable constitution, France was experiencing the “Reign of Terror”. During this this time in France, mostly French nobles and clergy members were being executed by the guillotine. During the Reign of Terror more than 200,000 people were arrested, and several thousands were executed ("Reign of Terror." The Columbia Encyclopedia, 6th ed.., "Reign of Terror." The Reign of Terror caused a major loss of France’s upper class society. This had a major impact in France. The aftermath of the French Revolution was the Reign of Terror, and a big loss of most of their upper class society. After the American Revolution a democracy was established, and the young United States had a stable functioning government, with a constitution. The American Revolution was solved by the Treaty of Paris. The Treaty of Paris is the document that ended the American Revolution. After a series of negotiations this was signed by both sides, Great Britain and the United States. This document officially ended the American Revolution, and gave the United States independence from Great Britain. ("Primary Documents in American History"). On the other hand, the French Revolution ended when Napoleon Bonaparte took control of France on November 9, 1799. Napoleon declared himself the first consul of France. This event put an end to the French Revolution (History.com Staff, "French Revolution", 2009). Both the American and French Revolutions, have had vital significance to the history of the two nations. Although the French and American Revolutions had similar causes and impacts, the two revolutions had very different outcomes. Both of the revolutions have had a great impact on society throughout history. Other revolutions during this time period were greatly influenced by the two revolutions.
