This was a eye opener for Amir because before he never thought anybody else knew about it besides himself and when he heard this it hit him hard. What really peaked his interest about it was the fact that Rahim said that he could “be good again” and all he had to do was go to pakistan and do what Rahim wanted here is the idea of him wanting to change and not being a static character because if Amir did not want to change or seek redemption for his wrong doings he would have never even considered leaving he would have hung up the phone and pretended as if it never happened.
