An Adventure Story: Mountain Biking
An Adventure Story

It was a beautiful spring day and birds were singing, the sun was shining. The day before, my brother Dovydas, my friend Greta, her brother Ernestas and I had planned to go mountain biking. We had decided to meet up at nine o‘clock. I and Greta were a bit late because we had forgotten one bag, but by the time we arrived at the mountain. Dovydas and Ernestas were already waiting there. We got everything ready and set off. We had cycling about one hour and twenty minutes when we noticed that the storm is coming. Sky was very cloudy and there was very windy. Just then, it started to rain more and more. Then we decided to hide and suddenly, my friend shouted: „Help me! Please, somebody help me!“.
Immediately, we ran there and saw that his bike has slipped and he was holding for the scarp. Luckily, there was tree branch and he caught the last minute on it. We pulled him to the top and I rang the emergency services.
Ernestas was weak and had hurt his leg and arm, there was some blood and scratches on his body. At last, we saw ambulance. The medical faculty took us to the local hospital and checked Ernestas injuries. He broked his arm, but other things were OK so that evening they let him out. In the end, our parents came to take us. While we were on the way to the home, we told our parents about this adventure. I was very terrified about an accident and very happy to be back

castrati. The economic situation of Italy is one of the few reasons that the castrati had a large uprising during the 16th-18th centuries. As a result, the number of castrated boys rose during this time and many didn’t succeed. Those who were talented however, were trained in a rigorous school where they were trained not only singing, but also theory, counterpoint, and language. Receiving a formal education was a very rare and uncommon privilege, especially for middle and low class citizens. Being a castrati paved a way for a more successful future and overall better life.…

This spring I spent two-weeks in New York visiting my daughter and her family. I spend a lot of time in the city, and I love it, not only because my daughter has chosen to create and raise a family in Brooklyn, but also because of its walkability. I’m not much of a shopper, but I do like to watch other shoppers, particularly those who dress as if they’d like to be watched.…

The moment I picked up my phone I knew something was wrong. The tone of my friend Danny’s voice sounded very grave and worn. The reason why followed in lowly uttered words. “CJ is in the hospital.” In sort of a daze I rushed to the hospital and found a way into the Intensive Care Unit. There in the bed was my friend with two broken arms and internal damage to his kidneys. At his side sat his mom. When I asked what happened, she said that Cj was hit off of Brooks Bridge by a drunk driver. A thirty-foot fall into the ground below, landing in the grass. Cj was two-inches away from the stone hard concrete that could’ve ended his life.…

As a student I find myself seated in front of a computer screen for long hours at a time; likewise, it is my obligation as a student to use technology as a resource to further my comprehension in my degree. In my opinion a good excuse to be seated in front of a computer for long hours. It is easy to say that I find a lot of inspiration form online sources, blogs, and social media – which I do – however, I feel most inspired when I step away from the computer screen. I find inspiration in the ordinary; I love to travel and see new things, in this case this is where I found my inspiration. Along my travels to Whistler Mountain in previous winters I saw a portion of land that was clear-cut, but one tree stood alone covered in snow. This piece…

    Dad Narrative

Once again, I found myself wandering through the uncomfortable, brightly lit halls of the hospital. I was to find the room where my father was, an all too familiar task. "Room 443", I was told by my mother who had requested me to take my dad back to his apartment. Upon entering the elevator I let out a sigh of apprehension and turned to wearily push the button labeled "4". Whiffs of disinfectant products meandered themselves inside my nose while I looked around to see egg-white walls and nurses shuffling about in their bright, floral print scrubs. One of them approached me with a kind smile. "May I help you?" I briefly responded saying I needed to find my father, Charles Jolitz. "Go down the hall. He's in the last room on the left." Slowly making my way to the door, I speculated about what had happened to my dad this time. I entered the room thinking to myself, "Boy, he looks worse every time.", his salt and pepper hair ruffled, beard unshaven and a look of loss on his face. Though as soon as his eyes met mine, that face lit up and the corners of his mouth upturned into a smile. "My chickadee!", he exclaimed. I asked him how he was feeling and if it was time to go as the nurse carted in a wheelchair. All three of us made our way down to the lobby exchanging small talk. I dashed to my car, happy to be out of the dreariness that is a hospital. I hoped he would tell me why he was there yet again. Once in the car, he told me in a few words that he had had another episode due to taking his pain medication with a fifth of vodka and had lost control. He ended up dialing 911. My dad hurriedly changed the subject asking if I was hungry and if I would like to go have a burger. I let out another sigh. "I'm sorry, Dad. I'm not hungry, I've already eaten but I can take you to get one. We can go for lunch later this week." "Alright, sweetie.", said he. We arrived at his apartment complex and I walked him to his…

As the wind blew past me, and the crunching of twigs and leaves echoed through the forest, Emma laughs and talks boisterously with her friend. I, her bracelet, clung snugly to her wrist.
