Sarah Ellis uses foreshadowing to invoke the feeling of suspense in the reader. She
demonstrates this by using subtle foreshadowing in the story, such as, “ Isn’t that excellent? I
read it again. Sometimes, I like to do that with R.L Tankard-”(Ellis, 4) She uses this quote and
the scene in general to foreshadow the basis of the entire story such as the idea of a
psychological battle in between Amy and Lucas, and the plot twist shown at the end of the story.
She also used the characters speech to foreshadow the upcoming events in the story shown in
the few dialogues of Lucas such as, “Very dramatic, Lady Macbeth.”(Ellis, 6) and “Hey fink-face!
