THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
Introduction
The Philippines,located just above the equator is visited by about nineteen typhoons a year. Six to nine of these typhoons make landfall. This natural calamity is unstoppable for more than a decade now which has claimed thousands of lives in the entire Philippine archipelago. The researcher has chosen the topic in order to assess the present capability of Barangay 725, Zone 79, District V, Manila to answer to the needs of the community during typhoons and floods.
The barangay in the Philippines, usually affected by typhoons, is the basic political organization in the country. It is a living community of people working and living to build a family in harmony and peace for the development of every individual for the benefit of their future existence. In the struggle to live in peace, there are times when typhoons and disasters visit the Philippines and the barangay is the most concerned. It follows that its constituents are the number one most affected by these disasters who are in need for disaster preparedness and response capability.
This research is concerned with the readiness and capability of Barangay 725, Zone 79, District V, City of Manila to cope up with such emergencies and the proponent will find out and evaluate the existing practices for the benefit of the constituents of this barangay. May this research be a basis of disaster readiness improvement in order that the barangay would exert its continual effort to implement its disaster coordination program tasked to save lives.
