Analisis a Julia de Burgos
Poema A Julia de Burgos

esencia vs. ropaje humana verdad mentira social e.

The form of the poem is not easy to determine. It consists of six stanzas of uneven length, which are, except for the first and fifth, again divided into sub-stanzas. The meter is irregular as well as the length of the verses and there is also no rhyme scheme. Cervantes plays very freely with the structure of poems. She does not use an established type of poem and ignores rhyme and meter, but she presents her words graphically in the form of stanzas, in separate but related sections. The six main parts are numbered. It can be assumed that the arrangement of the verses was done consciously and that it aims at a certain reception on the side of the reader. Each time a stanza or sub-stanza starts, a kind of pause emerges. This also allows the poem to have spatial and temporal leaps without transitions, but it also increases the difficulties concerning the understanding of the text. In addition to that, many things are only vaguely hinted or ambiguously presented. The inherent continuity of the poem is achieved by its themes and by its imagery.…

Paz’s views of social classes: criollo (spaniard born in new Spain), Indio (native of Mexico), negro (African), mestizo(Spanish and Indian), mulatto (Spanish and African), castizo (spaniard and mestizo),morisco (spaniard and mullato) are all examples of the hierarchy that the authors believe Paz believes in. In order to shut down Paz’s taxonomy hierarchy it is brought to the readers attention how these types of believes still have a negative effect on Mexican culture today and influences gender and race roles placed on people. Gender/sexist views are put into perspective in order to defend the La Malinche, authors defend her by pointing out Paz’s view of women being that they are meant to fuck, feed, fight and procreate, which is in its self wrong, it is also said that women are man-haters and sellouts in his mind because they seek equality as well as personal liberation without considering their…

Feminist readers see Sor Juana as an example to proudly advertise and develop her talent in a culture that limits women’s opportunities. In Sor Juana’s hypocritical society, her voice objects to the unfairness by defending herself and other women using a direct first person declaration. Her poem “Hombres Nescios” (foolish men) is a good example of the hypocrisy. In the beginning Sor Juana writes, “Misguided men, who will chastise a woman when no blame is due, oblivious that it is you who prompted what you criticize” (Penden 149). This illustrates the double standard and how men blame the women for the faults that they themselves caused. Also, Sor Juana addresses the issue of prostitution, “ Whose is the greater guilt therein when either’s conduct may dismay: she who sins and takes the pay, or he who pays her for the sin” (Penden 151). Sor Juana wants her readers to reconsider the existing beliefs about the guilt and shame in society. She is not overlooking prostitution; she is making it obvious that she wants men and women to be judged equivalently. However, till this day women will most likely never be equal to men. Sor Juana faced discrimination simply because she is a…

For about twenty-two years now, women in the city of Juarez have been struggling with the violence that is happening around them. Women who live in this city have to live their lives with the fear of one day being sexually abused and killed by criminals. The political meaning behind this piece is that by giving awareness to this cause the artist can help support the cause of the victims who’s crimes have not been resolve. This also helps give the families of the victim some comfort because the artist is sending the message that people should be aware of the injustices that are happening around them and to help support this cause because only then these families can grieve in…

Lorna Dee Cervantes' poem, “Poema para los Californios Muertos” (“Poem for the Dead Californios”), is a commentary on what happened to the original inhabitants of California when California was still Mexico, and an address to the speaker's dead ancestors. Utilizing a unique dynamic, consistently alternating between Spanish and English, Cervantes accurately represents the fear, hatred, and humility experienced by the “Californios” through rhythm, arrangement, tone, and most importantly, through use of language.…
