An Aristotle Who Punches Bad Guys is an overview of the moral and ethical views of Captain America. The Article briefly delves into some history of the hero and then enters into a discussion of the high morals and values that Captain America displays in all his many comics, books and movies. The author compares him to the Ancient Greeks and poses the argument that the creator must have derived his moral compass from Aristotelian virtue. I find that the source of this article is relevant to our discussion because of its topics of politics and culture I find on its web site. After …show more content…
reviewing the article, I find that it does have some information pertinent to my topic and I could certainly find myself interjecting my point of view into the conversation, especially when the author attempts to drive the point home that Captain America is the representation American attitude. The information contained in the article will be useful in helping me build my argument that Captain America’s moral and ethical principles are really a view of main stream American attitude. Although the information is relevant, I am not certain that the source would hold its own as an authority on the subject of the morals and values of Captain America; even though the writer does a good job of posing his view and backing them up with facts about Ancient Greek Civilization.

Richard. Captain America, Masculinity, and Violence: The Evolution of a National Icon. Syracuse: Syracuse University Press, 2015. Project MUSE. Web. 22 Feb. 2016. Captain America, Masculinity, and Violence: The Evolution of a National Icon is book written about the history of Captain America with correlations to movements throughout recent American History. The book will be good to use a time track and also to show the difference in changes in the character in comparison to the changes in American attitude, especially when it comes to changes in attitude toward the government. I plan on using the content contained in the book throughout the paper as factual as well as a very good contributor to the ideas that I plan to include in my paper. After reading reviews and comments on the piece I get the impression that Richard Stevens, the author, is up to date and offers quite a bit of insight into the history and motivations of Captain America. I can also use the facts and views contained in this book to enhance my knowledge and compare my views of Captain America’s story lines as they pertain to American culture. The book seems to have a number of good remarks, so I would have to believe that it would hold to critique as Richard Stevens seems to have his facts in order and believe the article to not have an issue standing up to academic …show more content…
review. Mangels, Andy, et al. "Captain America." Encyclopedia Britannica (2014): Research Starters. Web. 22 Feb. 2016
The short article written in Encyclopedia Britannica is a simple overview of the history of Captain America.
The article references the early times and how Captain America became famous with all the many stories of him fighting the Axis Villains all the way to the present day Winter Soldier, Bucky, Captain America’s longtime friend. I find the article interesting as a time marker in the progression of the story of Captain America. I can use this piece to make sure that my facts are straight with time as the article doesn’t really offer any particular view on the subject just facts about the authors and history of the hero; therefore, doing a good job in holding up to a review as an authority on fact based
articles.

Captain America's Empire: Reflections on Identity, Popular Culture, and Post-9/11 Geopolitics is a ground breaking article that make the suggestion that, through comic heroes, American Identity continues to reform after the traumatic events of 9/11. The article references quite a bit of imagery that seems to call the American Spirit to front, especially in our good friend Captain America’s comics. I found this article very deep with plenty of view based points with reference to modern political stances that we see in modern times. I am hoping that by revisiting this article I can make a connection and interject my thoughts on the subject of whether or not Captain America is a representation of the modern day mainstream American ideals of Government, Politics and Culture. I find the author has done a great job in tying these topics into one article and am positive it would hold to scholar review.

Holding out for a Hero, visits some the similarities of 1980’s comic book characters and politics morality and ideas of justice in comparison. The article also has a spotlight on Captain America and how he was portrayed in the eighties versus his beginning. I see this article being a major source for my paper as I show the transition of the character versus the attitude shift of popular American view. As far as holding up to academic review, the article supplies sufficient sources and text reads neutral, so I believe that it would hold up nicely. I found a couple more sources that seem of interest as well while reviewing this article, so it was definitely a good find.

Wearing Hero-Face: Black Citizens and Melancholic Patriotism In Truth: Red, White, And Black is an article that visits the view of Isiah Bradley and offers and alternative point of view from that of Steve Rogers. The article gives some interesting views on African American forms of patriotism and how much of an epic fail the Isiah Bradley experiment was due to the fact that the patriotism displayed in African American Culture is quite different than those of Caucasian. I can use this peace to further dive into specifics of attitude portrayed in the characters by comparing the two types of patriotism and attitude portrayed in Isiah Bradley vs. that of Steve Rogers. The article cites several credible sources, and the author portrays a good bit of knowledge and understanding of the topic, so I think this article would hold up nicely to scholar review.
