T: The title suggests that someone is afraid of abandonment and being left by someone they love.. The denotation is someone wanting to leave another person. The connotation is someone afraid of being left behind.

All the speaker does is say “Don’t go”, but doesn’t do anything else to prevent the other person from leaving. The poet’s attitude shows that a person can be too dependant on the person they love and this can weaken them, and make them miserable. It serves as a warning to the reader to be careful about their love relationship, because they can get very dependent and hurt from it
S: The shifts occur at the end of each stanza. The speaker becomes more and more desperate with each new verse. The purpose of the shift is to show the reader that the speaker is powerless to stop the person they are referring to to stay with him/her. The speaker changes his voice from being empty without the other person to feeling dead without them. This contributes to the effect because it is much more dramatic due to this mention of feeling
