Searching for suitable place for performance is a difficult job, especially in Hong Kong. Although there are several venues where suit for huge performance projects, such as the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, the demand of performing venue is still over the supply of places in Hong Kong. Apart from the supply of venue, the choice of venue should also be discussed. There might be limitations in different venue and it is the job of managers to deal with the problem. For example, sound and lighting is one of the most important factors in a performance. Managers have to contact suitable artists. In a dance performance, managers may need to contact choreographers for creating dances, and contact dancers who may suit and be interested in the choreography. The project ‘Eureka’ not only includes CCDC dancers, but also invites other choreographers.
Last but not least, side events are necessary in consequence to the sustainability of the performance afterwards. Side events, such as talks and workshop are usually held after the performance. These events provide different functions for the performance and the organizers, for example, to raise audience interest on performance with similar ideas, or to collect audiences’ opinions in order to improve their performance. In our visit, City Contemporary Dance Company held a meeting and sharing section for City University students with the 3 choreographers of the ‘Eureka’ program.
