I recall a documentary that I viewed that reflected the life of individuals that were trapped inside of drug infested communities in a developing country. the land that grew the drugs for consumption. It was horrific tale of how the drug cartels were able to capture villages and force the incumbents to work the land for low wages.
The culture of drugs (substances) is one of a deteriorating, harsh, and painful culture with no regard for human rights or life. Although some substances are legal such as tobacco and intoxicating constituent they still form an addiction base. It is the cornerstone of destruction of self and the environment. That inflicts painful results from its existence. In the text it is discussed the nature of what addictions detail, and how the profit driven force behind drugs(substances) have caused casualties. The causalities of drug addiction and trafficking are entities that bear a mischievous weight that is detrimental and contagious at best.
The victims of addiction and trafficking are not only the abusers and sufferers, but also the family and the environment which accompany the surroundings.
It is a gruesome tale of dependence on drugs (substances) that have destroyed individual’s, communities, and countries ability to function in an efficient manner. This is a matter that has become more and more relevant as the increase in addictions and violence have risen steadily over a period of time. This epidemic knows no boundaries, it has affected every country, both individually and collectively internationally. I believe that addiction of any sort is a tool used by many to mask pain.
As Social Workers it is a duty to implement a plan of action for addicts and trafficking victims. Globally individuals, families, and communities have come together to fight the issues that stem from the abuse of substances. However, because the drug culture is such a lucrative business it is difficult to combat. This warfare on drugs and trafficking will be an ongoing issue until it is no longer profitable, as long as there is money to be made off of the suffering of others the issue will always be prevalent and
significant.
