In fact, because of the inaccuracies, only the British Academy of History gave its approval, while the rest of the world said it lacked historical precision and that the movie was a mere praise on England. In the scene above-mentioned, for example, you can note that the failure of the Spanish invasion was due to a storm and it was not a great English victory as the director shows from his point of view. As for me, it is clearly that the point of view was to represent a strong, powerful England, with no enemy to impede its progress and the expansion of what would be the British Empire in the future.
Likewise, regarding Elizabeth I, the movie also shows her loyalty to her people, her unrequited love, and her personal sacrifice on behalf of a nation. However, historical facts were omitted, for instance, her true age during the period shown; her position against Catholic priests, one of the reasons why the Pope of that time gives the permission to Philip II to invade England; or the defeat of the British Navy, which plunged England into a bankruptcy of which had to go out with
