Analysis Of Hae Min Lee's Murder
Almost every murder has a motive, some darker than others, so In 1999 when Adnan Syed murdered Hae Min Lee how dark was his motive? In 2014 Sarah koenig did a podcast about this murder and took some of finding the facts into her own hands and explore the case. With all the evidence however, I believe the state had it right. The fact that Jay Wilds had no reason to lie about Adnan being the killer, comboed with Jay's story of matching all the cell phone records paints a strong picture; Adnan killed Hae out of anger for her breaking his heart. One motive for Adnan to kill Hae was that she broke his heart. Adnan dating Hae was already an offense. At one point during their relationship Adnan once said, “Religion means life to me. Tried to remain …show more content…
The first piece of evidence is when they say He was killed between 2:15 and 2:36 p.m. Adnan wrote a letter saying, “That is virtually impossible to do in that time” (Koenig, “Route Talk”). So Sarah attempted it herself and accomplished all the stops in that amount of time. Another piece of evidence is what cell towers pinged when they were driving. The time Jay says they were burying Hae and made a call collaborates with the tower that was pinged at that time. The last piece of evidence that is agents Adnan is the Nisha call. Adnan claims he is at the library at the time between school and track practice at 4 p.m. The Nisha call makes this statement of Adnan being at the library fauls, as Jay says, “Adnan spoke to some girl in silver Spring. Adnan put Jay on the phone with her” (Koenig, “Route Talk”). At the time Adnan says he was at track practice him and Jay are still together coming back from there drive. “The earliest we got back from the cliffs back to Woodlawn is 4:45 p.m. that means Adnan is very late for four p.m. track practice” (Koenig, “Route Talk”). With most of Jay’s testimony matching up, and Adnan being with Jay at the time Adnan claims he was at the library and track practice shows that Adnan was lying and killed …show more content…
Jay had no motive, besides a guilty conscious, to tell the police everything that happened. This stands true when multiple times he gives himself up to the police about illegal activities he has done. (Koenig, “Route Talk”). Jay told police he was smoking weed and even saying he help dig the hole for Haes body. When police questioned him he admits to these things, giving himself up, instead of lying and telling police he had no part of this murder. You have to agree with a man that tells a very detailed story and Jay does just that. With lots of big events happening that day it stuck with Jay, he remembered some small details. Compared to Adnan trying to say it was just a normal day, but with the cell phone records of tower pings and Hae going missing it was far from a normal day. With all of these accounted for, Jay had no reason to tell the police all this besides the fact that it actually

The next day she goes to the cops and tells them that Jay told her Adnan killed Hae. On February 28, Jay gets interviewed by detectives, he tells them everything he knows; how Adnan showed him the body and then leads them to Hae’s car, this proves that Jay was at the scene. But Jay's story changes, the next time he is asked by the detectives he admits to assisting Adnan with burying the body, he later tells Jenn that he needs to clean up the shovels and that he needs her help. These inconsistencies make it hard to believe that he is a solid witness, he doesn't change his story once but multiple times. He tells the Cops that he is sure the murder happened at the Best Buy parking lot and that Adnan later called him from a payphone there, he draws detectives a map of the location of the payphone but when you look through the blueprints and ask the primary and recent owners, no one has ever seen a payphone outside at the parking lot. Before we go any further we need to know the time of the murder, the state's timeline is from 2:15-3:30 pm, this is when Adnan went from Woodlawn High school to Best Buy and between all this still had time to kill Hae, the problem with this is that it's nearly impossible. Investigators Sarah and Dana tested the State's timeline, they accounted for the traffic of getting out of…

Jay says in two different investigations that the call came in around 3:45 but according to the records they came in at 2:36. The records also show that Jay was not at Jenn’s house from 12pm to 3:40pm (like he and Jenn said) that leaves the following; Jay was in the area of Hae’s last-known location at the time that she went missing, and Jay has no alibi for where he was during that time period. Thus, Jay can’t be at Jenn’s house, as he and Jenn told the police over and over. The records show the phone near Woodlawn the entire time of Hae’s (probable) abduction and(or) murder. The same phone was being used to call “Jenn house” at the same time. Adnan has no reason to call Jenn. Did Jay call Jenn?…

Going on Jay wilds, he confessed to help Adnan bury the body in one of his recorded police interviews but in another story by Jen, Jay had claimed that he didn't help bury the body but had no sentencing for helping and knowing about the burying plus the murder of Hae. The body was found in Leakin Park it is a widely known wooded area to dump bodies. Jay had known where Hae's car was but not the body when he claimed to the police he helped bury it but to Jen he didn't help Adnan at all. Also Jay was seen disposing his clothes by another witness Jen but then claims he didn't help Adnan at all but why get rid of the clothes that he was wearing. When Jay was being questioned by police the tapes recorded weren't turned on right when Jay got in the room it took police 45 minutes to get the tapes rolling so what happened in that chunk of time? Jay had cut a deal with the police giving false information in exchange not to bust him for the drug dealing and other crimes he had committed. The state had an out with Jay and they took it causing stories to change to match up to what the police needed to arrest Adnan. The police had ran out of suspects the only one that was left was Adnan and they had to put someone behind bars so the department did not look…

But, what the defense failed to bring to the court's attention is that on a fax cover sheet discovered by Susan Simpson, AT&T clearly states that incoming call information is not reliable for location of the phone, negating the prosecution's use of it being a tracking device for Adnan. Those AT&T records said Syed’s phone “pinged” a cellphone tower covering the park and nearby areas during calls he received at 7:09 p.m. and 7:16 p.m. on 13 January 1999. The calls were described by Syed’s current attorney as “the pillar of the state’s case” against him. In a court motion filed last August, Syed’s attorney, C Justin Brown, said the disclaimer should have barred prosecutors from using the cellphone records. Brown said the misuse of the records in the face of the “unambiguous warning” on AT&T’s cover sheet – and the failure of Syed’s original lawyer to do anything about this, amounted to prosecutorial misconduct and a denial of Syed’s right to due process. Although this evidence seems crucial to the case, Adnan's lawyer never brought this up at trial, one may think that his lawyer may not bring the evidence to trial is because the state didn’t present them the evidence. Also, in Jay’s interview with Intercept he states that the burial took place at midnight, making any significance the cell records had in placing Adnan near the burial site at seven p.m.…

“I got through and saw the deceased Robinson laying on the floor on his back. I could see … blood running from the back and nostrils.” William Robinson was a coloured settler in Salt Spring Island in British Columbia who was brutally murdered in the spring of 1868. There were a few suspects taken into consideration as to being responsible for this innocent man’s death, yet one suspect got all of the attention; Tshuanahusset. Receiving most of the publicity and scrutiny by authorities, Tshuanahusset soon became the main suspect of the case. Yet, there was no hard evidence found as proof that Tshuanahusset was guilty, only circumstantial evidence. The indifferent actions of the judicial system occurred solely because they had the main…

Jay has been inconsistent with each story he has ever told. In each interview, he would change parts of the story he had previously shared. It is baffling to me that Adnan’s friend, Jay, a small town drug dealer, manages to convince the jury that he is a believable source in the murder case. It is likely that the reason the jurors had so much faith in Jay was because he was the only evidence the jury had to lean on. Other than Adnan’s handprint in Lee’s car, it would be ludicrous to say that Adnan murdered Hae Min Lee. During the first interview, Jay claimed that he heard Adnan say he wants to kill Hae Min Lee, then the next day he was shown Lee’s body and Jay helped Adnan get rid of it. In the next interview, Jay insists that Adnan mentioned a few weeks before, he would kill Hae Min Lee. Jay’s timeline, inconsistent as it is, shows that Hae Min Lee was strangled in the parking lot of Best Buy before 2:36 P.M. However, multiple eyewitnesses claimed to have seen Lee at school around that same time period of the same day. Jay also…

The reason the other side believes Adnan is guilty is because of one person; no, not Adnan himself; Jay, who says Adnan told him he was going to kill Hae. More importantly, Jay himself says that Adnan showed Hae’s body to him, as put: “I noticed that Hae wasn't with him. I parked next to him. He asked me to get out the car. I get out the car. He asks me, am I ready for this? And I say, ready for what?” And he takes the keys. He opens the trunk. And all I can see is Hae's lips are all blue, and she's pretzeled up in the back of the trunk. And she's dead.” (Episode I, Page 10). Jay is claiming to have been shown the body of Hae, and he is placing Adnan at the very scene of the crime. How believable is Jay, because according to Sarah and Bill Ritz, Jay’s story repeatedly keeps on changing. Sarah explains to the audience, “I put it to Bill Ritz when I talked to him briefly on the phone. Jay's story kept changing. You were catching the inconsistencies and he was having to explain them and clean up his story. So what ultimately made you believe him? Ritz said they believed Jay's story because “we were able to investigate and corroborate what he was saying.” (Episode 4, Page 68). Jay’s inaccuracies are either due the the fact that he…

In Serial, Adnan is betrayed by those around him and falsely convicted for the murder of Hae Min Lee, showing that Adnan should deserve a retrial. First, the police interrogates Jay a lot. One of the days Jay was interrogated, 3 hours of the interrogation was not recorded. Jay has something new to say every time with a different version of a story. In this 3 hours Jay probably had said many things. In those stories there might have been crucial amount of info that could have helped but was not recorded. Second, the prosecutor maybe turned on Adnan and helping Jay. A question sparked people's attention when Jay was asked how he attained a lawyer. It was strange about how he attained a lawyer. Jay claimed he was not allowed to get one until…

In the tapes of Jay’s interview with investigators the listener often hears a tapping noise. That tapping noise isn’t made by Jay, but by the investigators. The investigators aren’t shy about giving away certain details or wording the question differently so that Jay ends up saying what they want to hear. While it is a serious allegation to point the fingers at the cops for trying to twist the truth or come up with their own story, it is not unlikely for police to do such a thing. In Undisclosed episode three, author Susan simply clearly states what she thinks is really going on in the tapes with Jay and the detectives, “The detectives are repeatedly bullying Jay into giving answers that they want. The detectives will tell Jay that he needs to give a certain answer, and again and again Jay complies. He does say what they tell him to say, and it’s not that subtle either.” Jay was only looking out for himself, he didn’t care if Adnan got charged with Hae’s murder. He and the detectives were determined to have their story made to look credible by Jay so that they could convict…
