For example, is food shortages. Ember has been limited on the amount of food they are able to purchase. The text says, “‘The lights go out all the time now! And the shortages, there’s shortages of everything!’” (DuPrau, 2003, Pg 13). This is important because at least there is one person who actually understands what is happening with Ember. Many can agree that most citizens believe idealistic and don’t face the fact that something terrible is going to occur. Although it is possible for us to have food shortages, it’s unrare, and it only happens in small parts in the world. The food in Ember is slowly decreasing because many people are picking up as much food as possible. They have been losing potatoes, pineapples, peaches, and other various types of food. (DuPrau, 2003, Pg 151). In our world we almost have an unlimited amount of supplies, resources, and especially food. This is horrific for the city because knowing that someday you will run out of food and resources is devastating. It’s almost as if no one is actually accepting the fact that their town is in danger, except Lina and Doon. The mayor even claims that the city will be safe and there’s no place but Ember. (DuPrau, 2003 Pg 13). Again, people don’t accept the fact the Ember is in life-to-death …show more content…
What this means is that our world is exposed to different creatures all around us, while the citizens of Ember is unaware of the different types of animals roaming the earth. The texts says, “But before they could decide what to do, a creature stepped into the clearing. It was about the same size as Poppy, only lower to the ground, because it walked on four legs instead of two. Its fur was a deep rust-red.” (DuPrau, 2003 Pg 266). It’s important to take notice on this because Lina, Doon nor Poppy cannot classify what this “creature” is. But in our world, we are full of education, and we can easily identify what certain animals are. Obviously, there are many species in the world we do not know exist, but we know more than the citizens of Ember. In our world we have multiple types of living organisms, but in Ember, they are only exposed to a few bugs/organisms. This makes one wonder that there can be so many differences and similarities, but at the end people are people, and we are the
