Analysis Of Keith Hammonds 'Article Why We Hate HR'
The Human Resource department of an organization oversees the “leadership and management of people using systems, methods, processes, and procedures that recruit, select, motivate and enable employees to achieve outcomes individually and collectively that in turn enhance employees’ positive contribution to the organization’s goals” (Schwind, Uggerselv, Wagar, Fassina, & Bulmash, 2016). Keith Hammonds’ article “Why We Hate HR” has questioned the importance and role of the Human Resource department entirely and has created a lot of controversy regarding the profession. His views of Human Resources as discussed in the article can be summarized into four main points; HR professionals are ill-equipped, HR focuses on the wrong things, the department …show more content…
When properly implemented and maintained, HR has the potential to bring in new and talented employees, keep top-performers within the company, compensate and promote those who succeed, and will train and develop employees to their highest potential. Human Resources can be a vital component to any organization, even if the effects of which can only be noticed in the long-run. “HR is by nature a long-term play. Developing talent, heading off problems with regulations and turnover, building corporate culture, and addressing morale problems all take time” (Cappelli, 2015). Individuals like Hammonds need to realize the potential of the department and shouldn’t scrutinize their every effort just by looking at the here and now. If company executives would realize the potential of the department and started putting in the same time and energy into HR as they do in areas such as finance or marketing, they would find their efforts paying off in the
