Most people believe that a hero is a brave person who can help you in your time of need. Several musical artists have analyzed and have given their opinion on this subject. Mariah Carey’s hero is not about looking at somebody else as a hero but believing that the hero is you. In this song Mariah Carey expresses her thoughts of hope through: a metaphor of a long road, a hero that can be found in oneself, and a realization that life will go on.

She expresses that life is a “long road when you face the world alone, no one reaches out a hand for you to hold”. She is saying that life is like a long road that sometimes you have to travel it on your own. In these times you may feel like there is no hope and no hero to help you. However, if “you can find love if you search within yourself and the emptiness you feel will disappear.” This is significant because she is saying that even on the long road; you are not truly alone because you carry the love inside you.
