Jennifer Maestre’s sculpture, “Materialize” is one of her many pieces that include a similar concept- recreating the same emotion and feeling that a sea urchin gives. By sewing together 1inch pencils, Maestre is able to create varying organic forms and evoke two completely different textures by simply using the flattened side of the pencil. What draws me to Maestre’s works is how effortlessly the textures seem to flow, creating an almost fuzzy feeling- completely contradictory to the actual reality of the sharp edges of the pencils, and the sea

    I chose to analyze a sculpture from the classical era “The laocoon Group.” Looking at the pictures of the sculpture I can’ help but be drawn into all the small details of each piece of the sculpture. They went into grave detail to make sure every aspect of the sculpture was as detailed as it could be to almost bring it to life. The characters muscles and tone are outlined and use shadows to show how big and masculine their build is. The stance of each individual piece makes me feel like at any moment the sculpture could take a breath and come to life before my eyes. They also look like they are in a struggle or are trying to protect someone from some sort of danger.     When taking a trip to the Norton Museum of Art I chose a one dimensioned painting called Adam that was located on the first floor. The artist is Nicholas Carone and was painted in 1956. To the left of the painting, Adam, was another painting named Personage which was painted by Robert Mothewell in 1943. Personage is an abstract oil painting on canvas with multiple different colors. To the right of Adam was a sculpture called Sea Quarry and was created by Theodore Roszak. The sculpture was not an obvious choice that it was a sea animal at first. I had to stand there for a minute and really look at the sculpture to being to see what it was really intended for the sculpture to be. Returning to my original choice, Adam by Nicholas Carone, it is also an oil painting done on canvas. Carone first started with a plane black picture and continued to manipulate it with white paint color and other lines using different thick and thin brushes. The picture was made to represent and recreate light and shadow but is opaque. It uses several different elements of art including color, value, line, shape, and space. “Adam”s composition is curved lines and is known as an Abstract Expressionism type of art.…

    Our simplest words are often the deepest in meaning: birth, kiss, flight, dream. The sculptor Constantin Brancusi spent his life searching for forms as simple and pure as those words—forms that seem to have existed forever, outside of time. Born a peasant in a remote village in Romania, he spent most of his adult life in Paris, where he lived in a single small room adjoining a skylit studio. Upon his death in 1957, Brancusi willed the contents of his studio to the French government, which eventually re-created the studio itself in a museum (1.1). Near the center of the photograph are two versions of an idea Brancusi called Endless Column. Pulsing upward with great energy, the columns seem as though they could go on forever. Perhaps they do go on forever, and we can see only part of them. Directly in front of the white column, a sleek, horizontal marble form looking something like a slender submarine seems to hover over a disk-shaped base. Brancusi called it simply Fish. It does not depict any particular fish but, rather, shows us the idea of something that moves swiftly and freely through the water, the essence of a fish. To the left of the dark column, arching up in front of a patch of wall painted red, is a version of one of Brancusi's most famous works, Bird in Space. Here again the artist portrays not a particular bird but, rather, the idea of flight, the feeling of soaring upward. Brancusi said that the work represents “the soul liberated from matter.”1 A photograph by Brancusi shows another, more mysterious view of Bird in Space (1.2). Light from a source we cannot see cuts across the work and falls in a sharp diamond shape on the wall behind. The sculpture casts a shadow so strong it seems to have a dark twin. Before it lies a broken, discarded work. The photograph might make you think of the birth of a bird from its shell, or of a perfected work of art arising from numerous failed attempts, or indeed of a soul newly liberated from its material prison.…

    In the following picture, there are various artistic elements and formats. In the background and foreground of the image, it is a neutral color scheme, consisting of whites and browns. In the center of the picture, you will see three basketballs floating in a straight line in an underwater tank. This sculpture really gives the image an architectonic feel. First off the table that is holding the tank is made up of linear lines and the tank is also made up of linear lines which makes the geometric shape of a rectangle. The bold lines around the tank are the contour lines. Inside the tank, it gives the viewer an attectonic feel due to the basketballs inside. The basketballs are made up of curvilinear lines and each ball has a type of writing on, which I will talk about later. The middle basketball brings out the complementary colors, which are orange and blue. The tank is a three-dimensional figure. All in all, this image brings something to the art world.…
