Housekeeping, the tragic story of two sisters, Ruthie and Lucille, struggling through their teenage years as they experience turmoil within their family. Through the story the girls bond stretches and eventually snaps but they both arrive at the same moral and thematic conclusion. Due to differences in beliefs and personality they make different decisions and this leads to a sudden separation. The book Housekeeping by Marilynne Robinson shows that if your problems seem too big too handle it’s okay to run away from them. This is exhibited by the author’s tone when talking about events, the events themselves, and the mood that these events transfer to the reader.…

Initially, Zee and Munitz’s seem to agree on what a parent’s obligation is. Dr. Munitz agrees until it was proposed that a parent’s obligation is to help their children realize what their “super-best people they can be” (175). Overall, Munitz and Zee disagree on the means of how to help children achieve their best potential. Zee believes children will show “mastery and high achievement” (177) if shown rewards and discipline. If parents show that their children are “not living up to the standards” (176) asked of them, they must be shown disapproval in order for the child to learn how to behave properly. This ideology is used in Zee’s approach because she believes parents know best and that children do not “have the experience or knowledge to…
As well as, practicality over luxury goods. She says, “A really happy child is a child who lives. Boundaries and, within those boundaries, is given a lot of freedom.” Here, she lets the readers know that the children should be allowed to make their own decisions or set their own rules. However, all this is possible within the margins of the parents letting them fight for what they want; and for them to know the value of money.…
Jeannette Walls, writer of the Glass Castle, learned how to swim not because she wanted to but because she flat out needed to in order to not drown, this experience made her stronger and she learned on her own although she was forced to learn by her father’s hand. When children work together on a problem without the help of their parents and explore the world around them, they tend to find unique solutions, they grow as individuals and build character. Children nowadays aren’t challenged in any other way, and as such don’t aren’t equipped for challenges that they might face as they grow…

An example of this is the ladies opinion of playtime v constant practice. Ms. Rosin mentioned that “What privileged American children need is not more skills and rules and math drills, They need to lighten up and roam free”. Ms. Rosin believes that a child should be able to gain his/her skills in life without the notion that a parent needs put harsh restrictions upon said child to accomplish the skill. Ms. Rosin points out that constant practice to the tune of 8 hours a day has left the adult lacking any appreciation of the instrument that she spent long hours practicing each day of her youth.…
Task #3: J.H. is divorced and her two children have already moved out so she has no one to share household or other responsibilities with. She says her roles have only changed in such a way that she doesn’t have to perform “Mom” duties anymore as compared to when her children were still living at home and going to school. Her interests have remained the same and her abilities have only been altered by minor health problems, such as back sprains and a recent hospitalization due to anemia. When her children come home, she says they pitch in with the household chores.…
Parenting and the way one chooses to parent is so crucial to child development; it affects every aspect of the child’s life. Parenting styles are choices and there is no right or wrong way to raise a child. In society there may be, but it only matters how to the person raising their child. There are endless ways people raise their children and even though we have four main parenting styles, sometimes many parents don’t even fit into one. Parents should just strive to raise their children as well as they can. The biggest thing a parent can do for their child is to teach them, support them, and be there for them. “At the end of the day, the most overwhelming key to a child's success is the positive involvement of parents.” - Jane D.…
Which she is correct in saying that that is many of the reasons parents have their children do chores at home. Not to say that she doesn’t have a good work ethic, but by not having to work for things as a child, the child will develop a bad work ethic from a young age. Many times the child will expect things to be handed to them, be lazy, and not work hard for the things they need to get done or to achieve things. By having our chore day on a certain day every week, it made us realize that it had to be done on that day so it needed to be a priority and come before other activities. This being said, it teaches that sometimes you cannot do what you want when there are other things that need to be done first.…
Even though college algebra is considered to be an obstacle for many students in terms of degree completion, as teachers we must teach useful strategies to motivate our students to find interest in mathematics. Recently, there is a psychological problem that we as teachers will face in the future, which is that some students believe they were born incompetent in math. However, “effort is key to their success and failure is a result of a lack of effort” (Cortes-Suarez, 2004). As teachers, we must motivate students that are in denial to improve their mathematical skills to prevent poor academic performance. For that reason, attempts to reshape the educational system could help break the cycle of self-blame that several students possess in order…
