Analysis Of Sleater-Kinney's Poem 'Price Tag'

“Price Tag” by Sleater-Kinney is an indie rock song with a main Marxist theme. In this case, Sleater-Kinney’s use of Marxist theme questions the economic struggle for power.
At it’s core, “Price Tag” is a song about the difficulties of working and struggle for the money and power to live a comfortable life. Near the beginning of the song, the lead singer describes her uncomfortable lifestyle by saying “The clothes are stiff/The fabrics itch/The fit's a little rough/But I suck it in”. These lines implies that with her lack of money she is unable to buy something as personal as clothes. Later, she reflects on her decisions “I was blind by the money/I was numb by the greed”.
