Analysis Of Straws Like Tame Lightnings By Maccaaig
In the first stanza MacCaig examines the world around him. While this examination can be viewed as a mere description of a setting for the poem, it also speaks for the thought process of the narrator (MacCaig). He considers the vast scale of the world but also its detail and preciseness.
Poetic Devices/Techniques
• MacCaig uses two similes in the first stanza to create a detailed image in our minds as to what he is seeing. “Straws like tame lightnings” creates the image of the sharp crooked nature of lightning reflected in a less extreme, “tame”, way by the straw. • The second simile, “green as glass”, is a strange one as one would not normally consider glass to be green. However MacCaig’s use of this phrase vivifies the idea

The mold is placed into the machine. On one end of the machine there is a reciprocal screw in a heated barrel. The plastic is fed into the barrel, which in turn feeds it into the screw. The first section of the screw holds the plastic together so that it starts to melt. Moving a little further up, the threads on the screw become thinner. This because the barrel is heated and the pieces of plastic are being pushed together and rubber together, the plastic melts. At the tip of the screw there is a piece which holds the plastic in place until enough plastic has been stored to push into the mold and complete the mold. Now that the plastic has been melted, it needs to be injected into the mold before it hardens and dries. Using a hydraulic push, the machine pushes the screw forward at up to 300 psi, blasting the plastic into the mold at an immense rate. Finally, when the product has been cooled, it is removed from the machine.…

This assignment concerning the differences between reputable source and questionable sources is in regards to weight loss programs. There are so many different programs available to the public. Unfortunately they are often from a questionable source consisting magic pills and supplements and marketed as the recommendations of a seemingly practicing physician who has conducted scientific research of sorts that will back up his claims. Many times it is stated or at least implied that there is absolutely no necessary change in diet or lifestyle needed. I think this makes their products a best-seller because it feeds into the fears and insecurities of the customer as well as the fantasy of something for nothing. For example, there is a new fad of weight supplements by…
