What does Santiago learn about himself by pursuing his dreams?

The Alchemist, written by Paulo Coelho is a story about a youthful, adventurous Andalusian shepherd struggling to find his “Personal Legend” Santiago learnt trust is a privilege and it’s important the people you put your trust in is worthy of it.. Santiago was quick to trust the gypsy, Melchizedek, and the young man who stole his money while Santiago was distracted. Why is it that Santiago put all of his trust in these people as quickly as he did? In the text; it didn’t explain why Santiago put his faith in these individuals so hastily but if you can infer and use contexts clues, it can give you a few good reasons why he might have.     It’s awful that it took the Vicario Brothers killing Santiago, in order for the town to understand the seriousness their threat imposed. During this time period in Colombia, when the church and the state were heavily connected, not even the two important figures of these factions understood what was going on until his death.
