4.0 Introduction
According to Afriyie (2014), the mission of the missionaries is evangelizing and bringing salvation to the world in order to transform the society. It is for these reasons that the missionaries from Europe came to Ethiopia and founded the Apostolic Vicariate of Hosanna (AVH). Through the Mission much has been achieved which has not only improved the spiritual lives of the people of AVH through inner conversion, but has also impacted their social and economic lives positively. A good example is that the missionaries started schools, hospitals, Catholic churches, Convents for the religious and constructed many other infrastructures. Through the activities the missionaries have contributed their skills, their knowledge, their time, their energy, their material and financial resources (Sunberg, 2013). Handing over process is something very delicate and hard to accept. It can divert the initial spirit of being missionary by leading as a means of controlling the work and the person in the mission. This in same missionary will develop the attitude of paternalism by assuming to have superior knowledge, wisdom and skills. This also can lead as some parents who fail to see that their children are now young adults and still want to control them as the little children. “Missionaries can use their funding of the mission to keep a stranglehold on the work so that the indigenous leaders cannot express themselves freely for fear that the funding will be withdrawn and the mission work shut down.
