The drug Adderall is classified as a Schedule II drug in the United States; which means that Adderall provides medical effects and also has been considered as a potential for abuse. The mechanism of action of Adderall is related to
its increase in activity of the neurotransmitters norepinephrine and dopamine in the brain which results from its interactions with the trace amine associated receptor 1 (TAAR1) and the vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2). These neurons, norepinephrine and epinephrine, are thought to be lacking in people with ADHD, which leads to low activity in certain parts of their brain key to planning, decision-making, and also impulse inhibition, (Boslaugh, 2013).
