The narrator shows that he's going insane first by describing the house breaking down. In the story the narrator describes the house as "while the carvings of the ceiling, the somber tapestries of the walls,
the ebon blackness of the floors and the phantasmagoric armorial trophies which radial as [The narrator] strode" (Poe 267). The house is dark and crumbling, this a metaphor of the narrator mind. As the house breaks down and crumbles so does the narrators mind throughout the story.
The narrator shows how the family is going insane just like himself. He describes radrict as "partaking not so rigidly of the spirt if abstraction maybe showed for all though feebly in words"(Poe 270). How the narrator shows that the usher family is going insane is he reflection of himself. He thinks the usher family are the ones going insane but truly its himself. Thats why he had radrict call him for help when its was really narrator trying to help himself.
In the end of the story the narrator shows how he is insane and causes ultimate destruction. the narrator sees the usher family all finally die, the house is slowly falling into the ground with the usher family. the narrator describes this in"i saw mighty walls asunder -there was along tumultuous shouting sound like the base of a thousand waters - and the deep and dank and torm at my feet closed sullenly and silently of the fragrance of the 'House of Usher'"(Poe 279). The narrator falls just like the house.
In conclusion the narrator slowly went insane and was ended when the usher family and house died. this paper shows the three ways that the narrator was insane or dreaming. it showed this by the house breaking down, the family being insane and they how there was Altamonte destruction. in thee end no true way stop the narrator from going completely and utterly insane.
