The Fall of the House of Usher is a great example of Romanticism. It all begins with a man named Phillip. Phillip is one of the main characters who is in love with Madeline. Mr. Usher is Madeline’s brother who tells about the history of the Ushers. The purpose of Romanticism is to show how the reader can give good examples to the movie. The Fall of the House of Usher uses these three characteristics: Nature vs. City, Imagination over Science, and Individual freedom.

Usher tells him about how the past Ushers had done a curse on the mansion because Philip doesn’t want to hear about the curse anymore. A good example is that the mansion or house has a curse by one of the ancestors in the Ushers’ bloodline; this is an example of romanticism. Mr. Usher believes that the curse will be on his sister but Philip doesn’t want to hear about the curse; instead, wants Madeline to love him forever. Another example would be that there is a lake in which an Usher fell into and never came back again. One of the curses on the Ushers’ mansion is on the lake in which an Usher had fallen into and never came back alive. During Philip’s stay at the mansion, Mr. Usher tells Philip about how the past Ushers have murdered people during the time of the Ushers. While Philip is staying at the Ushers, Mr. Usher tours him around the house and tells him about how the murders killed people. Also, Mr. Usher is Madeline’s brother who wants Madeline to stay with him because of Philip, who is one of the main characters in the movie, is in love with Madeline and wants to move out of the mansion but Philip doesn’t know that she will die very soon. In addition, an Usher fell into the lake and never came out alive. The reason this movie was created is because it draws the reader's attention to what the movie is really all about.
