When James said, “most of mankind is not all of mankind.”, I took a step back and started reflecting. I realized that I have developed somewhat of a pessimistic attitude towards everything, especially humans. I developed that “no hope” attitude because I was seeing poverty, injustice, and death all around the world, caused by evil human beings. I thought that, with all the things going on in this world, what is there to look forward to? Then reading what James said somewhat reassured me that not everyone is the same and that there can be a change if the few good people come together to make it work. James also said that there are white people who know that they are wrong but won’t do anything to change the situation. They are comfortable being in their position and to try and change that, to do what is right, would be a loss of their identity. I completely understand and agree with what James had to say because I have seen it. Change is uncomfortable and many white people would prefer to live in a state of unjust than to do what it right. To me, that doesn’t make them any better than the other white people who think wat they’re doing is right, it only makes them
