Before I get into the analysing, I would like to tell my interpretation of this book. As I stated above I thought the guys in the maze represented the children being forced to work and Dashner showed how they felt by focusing on them. Within the book, there were many times where the kids expressed their feelings towards the unfair situation such as, this partion of the book which is,“He fought the urge to run out there, slip past the moving stabs of rock before they shut, flee the Glade.”Moving on to the analysing, even though I thought this was a bad book overall, the way Dashner got the reader’s attention was great because of two different aspects. Firstly, the book starts off with Thomas waking up without his memory trapped in an enigmatic place called the Glade. Even though this is a bit confusing, the reader’s immediatly consider three questions, who he was, where he was, why he was there and Dashner kept these three questions unanswered until the climax, making readers intrigued to the book. Secondly the majority of the paragraphes end with a cliffhanger which made me want to know what happend next. The superiority of cliffhangers has been proved by a myriad number of expert story tellers such as John Turby, a story consultant/script writer who has worked for major companies such as Disney and Fox. With the combination of keeping questions unanswerd and using cliffhangers, this book catches the readers attention. Now I would like to move on to the three negative points this book contains. The first bad point is the lack of characterization within the book which is caused by the stories plot and point of view. As I stated above, the main characters in the book don’t have their memory, which causes them into not having interesting back stories, beliefs or goals within them and
