Boys rock band from California who spread the culture through their very popular surfer music in the 1960’s. I used to listen to it myself (and still do). Songs like Surfin’ Safari and Surfin’ U.S.A. became extremely popular best sellers. The popular culture of surfing informs the larger culture in that it is very prevalent in many surfing theme related businesses in Honolulu, southern California and elsewhere e.g. restaurants, bars, surf shops, clothing stores and clothing brands.
Another culture that developed after the invention of the automobile is the racecar culture. The reason this comes to mind is Ferrari (the race car and luxury sport car company) is in the process of being spun off as a separate company from its parent company Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles (which I have a few shares of). The Ferrari racecars are very aerodynamically designed for racing. This design is also incorporated into their production cars for sale to the general public. The aerodynamic design utilized in race cars informs the larger culture of car buyers so many sport and luxury cars incorporate similar sleek body lines e.g. Mercedes SLK (Mercedes-Benz, n.d.), Maserati Granturismo Sport (Maserati, 2015). Even lower end commercial production cars have attributes of racecar design e.g. 2016 Honda CR-Z (American Honda, 2015).
The prevalence of the effect of these examples is very common in urban areas where one can view the abundance of automobiles and observe their body designs. Popular surfing culture is especially common in warm coastal resort and recreation areas but somewhat less inland away from the ocean
