Whale Rider Culture
In the film the whale Rider we see Koro trying to teach the young boys of the town or village if you will the old ways. Koro feels as though without an heir, he must teach the young boys of the village how to be the Chiefs. I think the film goes a long way in showing how the ancient cultures of the world are losing much of their historical heritage to modern advances in society as well as a more worldview of the culture. Just as Koro sees his oldest son’s refusal to take another wife after he lost his first wife and one of his children as a betrayal of his culture. Though I do think that the film left a lot out that should’ve been put in that would help explain the Maori culture a lot better, such as in the very beginning of the book where

Whale Talk is a book of many themes. Some of those themes are “Don’t Give Up”, “Independence”, “Abuse”, “Love”, “Happiness”, and “Teamwork”. “Don’t Give Up” is an example of the theme because even though TJ’s dad turns to suicide and drugs in order to cope with the accident, he still decides to take that experience to help out children in need. Another theme is “Independence” because in chapter 15, Kristin Sweetwater finally breaks up with Mike Barbour and actually sticks with the breakup.…

Although there have been many animal advocates protesting against SeaWorld, there are other people who don’t mind the Orcas being at SeaWorld. “Shamu the show and the marine parks’ collection of orcas have been inextricably linked to SeaWorld since the San Diego park’s origins more than a half century ago” (San Diego Union-Tribune 1). The killer whales have been the face of SeaWorld for many years. The Orcas are one of the main reasons people go to Seaworld. Shamu is the famous name that all the Orcas are known as, because of the captive killer whale that appeared at shows in SeaWorld San Diego in the 1960’s. “She was the fourth orca ever captured, and the second female, after her death, the name Shamu continued to be used in SeaWorld…

Before the presidential election, between Barak Obama and Mitt Romney, we were assigned a group project. In this project we had to secretively leave a “lost letter” on the ground, for a random person to walk by, in a public area, and at COD, and observe the outcome. The letters contained nothing of importance, but simply stamped with either presidential candidate, and addressed to our professor. We had to record weather or not the passerby’s did any of the following: Glance, Ignore, Stop and look, Picked up the letter, etc. Following the results of the pedestrians, we were supposed to hand them a survey that asked them personal political questions. Some of the questions were the political position they stood closest to weather that was Democratic, independent, and republican, none or something other than the following. Another question was which candidate they were leaning towards in the 2012 election, Obama, Romney, or neither. They were asked what their reaction was to our “lost letter’ and if they were walking alone or with someone else. They finally were asked if they had any relation to College Of Dupage and if they were interested in receiving the results of this study.…

Getting left behind is pretty bad, but getting left behind in the Middle Eastern wilderness with a kid that only knows Arabic is a bit worse. Prue Mason’s novel Camel Rider tells the tale of a boy named Adam who was left behind by his mother and gets himself stranded in the middle of the desert. There he meets a boy named Walid, and together they find their way back to civilization even though communicating is very difficult. Killer Whale, largest member of the dolphin family. Killer whales occur in more parts of the world than probably any other cetacean (see Whale). They occur in all oceans, both in the open ocean and close to shore, but are more common in the colder, more productive waters of both hemispheres than in the Tropics. Resident populations may cover an area of several hundred square kilometers. Transient populations often move through an area rapidly, swimming more than 1000 km (more than 600 mi) along a shoreline in a matter of days. Killer whales are black or deep brown overall, with striking white patches above the eye and from the lower jaw to the belly, and a fainter grayish-white saddle patch just under and behind the dorsal fin. Males are somewhat…

As highlighted in the previous sources, the 1960’s counterculture revolution can be widely portrayed as an era where there was a clear challenge and feeling of hostility towards the older establishment generation of authority, as well as a period in American culture where psychedelic drugs and rock music were widely popular. The 1969 film Easy Rider is a very well known film, which portrayed many of the cultural aspects and characteristics of the Hippie age. The message of this film clearly is to make a statement that expressed the fact that many young college aged students resented traditional authority. The storyline of the film takes place in the late 1960’s, where sex, drugs, and rock and roll was the ultimate way to reject traditional values. The film stars Peter Fonda as Wyatt/ Captain America, and Dennis Hopper as…
