Yes it is lied about by advertising companies with their vague interpretations of real or authentic. That is just a consumer's problem. To believe or trust an advertisement is kinda dumb when you think about it, For example I have, as did millions of other people, seen an advertisement for the new Youtube Music app. The ad simply states that there is a new app for music through Youtube’s streaming service. The problem was the music that was playing during the ad. It was the song “Nae Nae” by Silento. I can assure you that no one in Google’s marketing department has that song on their phone or ipod. That’s simple marketing though, the song has been stupid popular for the last six months therefore, it’s in one of the most seen commercials on the internet. It would be silly to be mad at them for being inauthentic because it’s expected. Getting riled up about something an ad company spat out is a waste of time. That leads to another question.
Does authenticity matter anymore? Of course to a coin collector or a car enthusiast it means losing money. Most people may not care if a painting is a real Picasso. What is important though is that someone does care and because someone believes an object to have value it does. In a capitalist society like our own, value comes hand in hand with cost. What something is worth is usually measured by what someone is willing to pay for it. Whether it’s a good or bad thing …show more content…
Is that important? First of all to define what it means to be an authentic person. Authenticity in someone's character is hard to define because everyone is somewhat affected by our surroundings. People's character is best exemplified in how they react to actions or events in their life and how they present themselves to the public. So, our different reactions to life in general is what makes us all special. Otherwise everyone with the same socioeconomic background would be the same. We have an innate sense of who we are and what defines our character. There is where authenticity comes into play. Someone who is “fake” would part from their innate personality, reactions and emotions. People do this to have normal social interactions. What would happen if you met someone for the first time and you told them everything you were thinking there and then? That would very weird and you would lose your chance of making a friend or getting to know potential love interest. We “lie” to be social. Everyone does it to function in society, the problem is when we begin to believe the lies. There is the inauthenticity in one's character. When we watched the “Goth Cruise’ film i cringed at the fact that most of the people were so unbelievably fake. I do believe that some of the people were genuinely goth but, most of them, one guy even stated that he wasn't really goth, were doing it for attention. Is wanting to be a part of some edgy fad a part of some
