The Star Spangled Banner The Star Spangled Banner was written by Francis Scott Key, an American diplomat. While on a British during the attack on Fort McHenry outside of Baltimore during the war of 1812. Francis Scott Key was inspired to write because after a long night of bombing the flag was still waving. Once he saw it he knew that the Americans had won the battle. The battle was fought on September 13,1814 between the British Navy and the American Army. 30 years after the Revolutionary War the British came back because they were seizing American ships, and then the United States finally declared war. After 202 years the poem is known all over the world and means a lot to the United States of America.
The purpose and the main idea of
the poem was to illustrate the Americans bravery, strength, and their courage. The words of the Star Spangled Banner are describing the battle between the British and the Americans, and the Americans accomplishment when the American flag was standing. The poem is very important to the United States because Francis’s poem is still standing as our National Anthem. “It represents our country, its people, and its values. Many have died in order to preserve the freedom that it represents. We all owe our freedom to those who died in order that we might be free.
