3) Next, you will be required to write a Toulmin’s model of warranted assent diagram to explain the attempts to persuade the reader. This includes a demonstration of the major claims made in the artifact and the warrant for those claims, as well as the implied justification of the artifact’s claims. This section should be at least two paragraphs and at most four paragraphs long.…
In the philosopher’s view: The Toulmin Model has four parts to an argument: the first is “the claim”, which is your thesis or the purpose of what you are disputing. The second is “the grounds”; which is leaving no uncertainty to the meaning and reasoning of your claim. The third is “the warrant”, which ties the purpose of the claim and the grounds together. Finally “the backing” which is theory of reasoning that may be needed to influence the audience if the warrant is not accepted. The Toulmin method is an outline of how to state your arguments in more of an analytical way. It allows you to break down the argument in different part so we can make a conclusion on how well the different part work together, as well as an effective way to get to the how and the why.…
The Atkinson- Shiffrin model was founded by Richard Atkinson and Richard Shiffrin (McLeod). Atkinson’s and Shiffrin’s model focuses on how the human mind processes outside information, and stores memories (Hockenbury & Hockenbury 232). They determined that the memory process begins with sensory memory and then proceeds through a series of steps in order to be remembered. Memory can be defined as the mental processes that enable you to retain and retrieve information over time (Hockenbury & Hockenbury G-9).…
The Von Thünen Model was originally made and applied to Northern Germany. If this model were to be applied to the United States with New York City as the agricultural market, the rings would look rather odd in shape. This is because the United States is not as circular as Germany, New York City is toward the edge of the agricultural area rather than the center, and the Von Thünen Model does not take into account the variations in terrain as one moves from Northern Germany to an area such as the United States.…
I completely agree with you when you mentioned how people do not utilize a Toulmin argument as much because a lot of people do not have strong opinions on topics anymore or at least they do not express it. When I was making my response to this prompt and had to find an example of where people use the Toulmin argument format I had some trouble. Your explanation helped to answer my problem.…
H.P. Lovecraft’s “Pickman’s Model” is about a Bostonian painter named Richard Upton Pickman who paints horrifying images. This painter does exquisite work, but his paintings are so graphic that his Boston Art Club membership is taken away, and he is shunned by other artists. After Pickman mysteriously disappears, Pickman’s friend narrates the story relating to another person how he toured Pickman’s personal gallery of paintings. As Pickman’s friend delves deeper into the art and psyche of Pickman, the rooms appear to come alive, seeming to grow more and more sinister and the paintings continuously become more horrific. Further, there is one final enormous painting of an unearthly, red-eyed, canine humanoid balefully chewing on a human victim.…
This paper presents a Toulmin model argument for the care and usage of the Earth and its natural resources as dictated by God in the Holy Bible (NIV). The Old Testament provides many guidelines for man to live fruitfully on Earth. Because it was made by God and given to us, we must follow the guidelines that he has set forth in the care and preservation of our planet.…
If women who were captured by Indians sometimes chose to go back to their captors, my opinion is that this was most likely caused by the fact that in the British colonies, women were stuck in a world of subjugation. They may have found life in another culture such as the Native American tribes fairer, or at least more tolerable to live in, if they were accepted. I formed this idea from the evidence in the text in which I repeatedly found the female colonists were second-class as a usual practice in most colonies. Even the small amount ‘man’s work’ women were sometimes doing was limited to fieldwork, and only if labor was scarce.…

This course develops the skills used in writing applied research papers for a university-level audience. Students will write position papers, persuasive essays, and case study analyses. Students will study classical rhetorical concepts of authority and the Toulmin method of argument analysis, and will evaluate outside sources for objectivity and utility in constructing persuasive arguments. Students practice giving peer feedback, revising essays in response to feedback, and writing collaboratively as Learning Teams. The course reviews the elements of grammar, mechanics, style, and proper documentation of outside sources.…
Overall, your presentation was outstanding. I thoroughly enjoyed watching your video at Medifast. Trans-theoretical model does apply really well for seniors, who are willing to change their eating behavior. You provided interesting information for seniors to consume more fruits and vegetables that would reduce the risk for chronic diseases.…
Many of the fears and phobias presented in therapy are very deep-rooted, and, because of this, the client is simply unable to see any evidence that would cast doubt on why they feel this way. They have become accustomed to avoiding situations, places, people etc so that they do not have to face that which terrifies them and never give the notion that their fear could be groundless any credence at all. When, however, they can at last begin to envisage alternatives, the ‘yin’ and ‘yang’, or ‘black’ and white’ model, could be a very useful technique to try.…
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the most prevalent among non-communicable diseases, worldwide. According to the World Health Organization (2015), CVD is the number one cause of mortality worldwide: more people die annually from CVD than from any other condition. According to Rogers et al., (2011), 251.2/100,000 people die due to CVD each year, globally. Abbas, Kitchlew, and Abbas (2009) have reported that 5.09 million people in Pakistan suffer from Ischemic Heart Disease (IHD) and MI.…
One major characteristic I like about the model is that it is so diverse. It shows that critical thinking played a major role in developing this model so that it could cover every aspect of the teaching methods of a professional. I believe that any individual can be taught, this has been one of my philosophies for a long time. A student will give the teacher what the teacher gives him/her. That’s why this model is so important because it shows the care that a teacher has for guiding a student to his best efforts. That means that a teacher can take this model and even evaluate themselves, which is just as important as teaching itself. A teacher must know first their capabilities before they can teach another student. It is impossible to set goals and ideas that haven’t been accomplished by the person himself. That proves that he or she did not follow the rules of the R.E.A.D. In fact, the model can be used to evaluate a person’s frame of mind as well. Based on the assignments given to the students, what will they produce with the information given? The model suggest that a teacher or student should be able to create diamonds out of coal, in other words “lemonade out of lemons.” But in order to do this the model has to be enforced based on the principles of his/her own philosophy.…
‘An agency relationship exists when one or more individuals (called principals) hire others (called agents) in order to delegate responsibilities to them’ (Baiman (1990: 342)) Agency relationships are administrated by implicit or explicit contracts between agents and principals. The assumption of agents’ self – interest which contradicts with the principals’ interest is the basis of the agency problem.…
