Analysis Of The Working Of Outdoor Patient Department In A General Hospital
Abstract— The paper examines working of outdoor patient departments in a general hospital. There are several out-patient departments and hundreds of patients visit the hospital daily for treatment. The main objective is to minimize the average waiting time of the patients. The current performance is determined and newer ways are identified to improve the performance of the hospital. Various alternatives are found and evaluated by simulating each of them. The objective of minimizing waiting time of the patients is achieved by altering the process by keeping the resource (staffs and doctors) constant which is against the conventional and commonly held view of shortage of staffs.

METHODOLOGY
The approach used is DMAIC type, Data analytics for analysis and discrete event simulation for evaluation of suggestion.
III. PATIENT FLOW
In healthcare, flow is the movement of patients, between departments, staff groups as part of a patient's care pathway. Patient flow means movement of patients through multiple stages of care. Patient flow management represents ability of healthcare system to serve patients quickly and efficiently as they move through stages of care.
Patients without appointments (walk-in and transfer) also arrive at the OPD registration desk; However, if all doctor’s time slots are filled, they will be scheduled for visits on later days.
The deviation in the system is an obvious issues which is due to several reasons for instance doctors arrival is delayed due to his prior visit to inpatient ward.

There is a lot of variation in the number of patients arriving each hour. Since registration starts at 7.30 AM, patients start coming from 7.25 AM.     There are several reasons that making it to appointments on time is important. It effects not just the clinic itself but also effects every other department that is connected with it and the hospital as a whole. Being a Soldier I am supposed to lead by example and I can't lead if I can't even show up for any of my appointments on time. The step by step process on how missing appointments can effect every part of the hospital starts at the lowest level which is the clinic. Starting with the receptionist. they get paid to check patients in and by not checking in on time, I have impaired their ability to check patients in behind me on time therefor delaying the doctors schedule for the rest of the day. After that I also impair the doctors ability to see his or her other appointments on time. Clinic slowing down and some patients then get so frustrated that they cancel their appointments without due time to fill them in with other patients that can actually make their appointments. Every appointment that is missed costs each clinic one hundred and eighty-two dollars for each clinic. Considering the amour of clinics we have in our hospital that is a very considerable amour of money.
