TITLE: ESTIMATION OF “AVAILABLE CHLORINE” IN BLEACHING POWDER

Aims and Objectives:
1. To determine the amount of chlorine in bleaching powder using titrimetric analysis.
2.

INTRODUCTION Although chlorine is one of the most widely distributed elements, yet its discovery is of relatively recent date. The famous Swedish chemist, Scheele, is given credit for its discovery. It is a heavy gas green color, and of very corrosive properties. It attacks violently organic bodies. It is soluble in water and gives a greenish solution of irritating smell, and soon disposes, especially when exposed to light. The gas can be liquefied by compressing it in special machines, and is kept and transported in strong steel cylinders.

For example, available chlorine 5% means that fixed amount of something can be oxidized by

In the PBS program The Merchants of Cool , Douglas Rushkoff explores "the giant feedback loop" which shows how the big media corporations use teenagers as resources to discover what will make teenagers watch their shows. He also investigates the tactics and techniques used by the major corporations to stay just ahead of the cool curve and the cultural ramifications that their shows have on teenagers. When MTV aired shows presenting high school and college students on spring break performing lewd acts, contemporary teen culture responded by mimicking the teenagers on those shows. At an after party for a breakout runway show, the fourteen and fifteen year old contestants danced with each other in the same way that the high school and college students danced on the MTV program prompting Rushkoff to ask "Who is mirroring who"? As can be seen at the runway dance party, the feedback loop influences teen lives in drastic ways by shaping the way they think and act.…

Wooow! Three weeks went by so fast and I haven’t even noticed it. Ooh well chapter 10 was the best out of all the ones I read so far. I feel like this chapter will bring the most use to me and my sex life. I often wondered if Earth would be as populated if sex wasn’t pleasurable. Or what would happen if condoms didn’t exist or if condoms came around 50 years later or 50 years earlier. I just have so many questions and I would love to know the answers. Honestly reading the book makes me want to know what sex feels like and if I am missing out on anything. The book makes it seem good and fun, and now I feel weird. Moving on, oral sex just creeps me out. Why would you put something that gross in to your mouth. Guys pee out of their dick and girls have periods and pee and all the nasty stuff comes out of the place people put their mouth on. C’mon really? That place is like super dirty. I mean I know we take showers but still I can’t even imagine myself giving a guy a blow job. I don’t even think I will let a guy go down on me. Another thing that scares me is anal intercourse. I mean that just sounds painful but I can’t really judge without trying it either and the world is just a weird place. But what I never understood was why guys like boobs and butts? They are just rolls of fat hanging down. Why don’t guys like belly fat hanging down low? Probably for the same reason girls like abs and nice butts on nice guys rather than fat. But why? Why are abs more attractive than fat, what is it in us that we like one over the other. Why don’t we like fat and find abs weird. Got some weird questions going on over here.…

Chlorine has an atomic mass of 35.453, atomic number 17, is a member of the halogen family (VIIA), and its symbol is “Cl”. Chlorine contains 17 protons and 18 neutrons in is nucleus. There are two isotopes for chlorine as well; Cl-35 and Cl-37. Chlorine was discovered in 1774 by Swedish chemist Carl Wilhelm Sheele. Sheele came upon chlorine when he put a few drops of hydrochloric acid (HCl), then known as muriatic acid, onto a piece of manganese dioxide (MnO2). This caused a reaction where the pricduct was a yellowish-green gas that would later be named chlorine. At this point Sheele thought that this gas contained oxygen and was some sort of oxygen compound, but it wasn’t until 1810 that the more handsome, British chemist Sir Humphrey Davy discovered that the gas was an element of its own. Davy named the gas “chloric gas” or “chlorine” after the Greek word “chloros” meaning “pale green”. Chlorine appears naturally in both the earth’s crust as well as in sea water. Though chlorine does not exist naturally as a gas, chlorine is obtained through a chemical reaction involving a sodium chloride and water mixture known as brine. When an electrical current is passed through the brine it reacts and breaks up the solution into chlorine, caustic soda and hydrogen gas. The reaction looks like this: 2NaCl + 2H2 ----- Cl2 + 2NaOH + H2. Not only is the chlorine exceptionally useful, but the caustic soda that is a co-product of obtaining chlorine is also used in soap, pulp and paper, and textile industries. Having such a useful “co-product” from obtaining chlorine has led to the Chlorine-Alkali industry to be successful.…

As GC3 has grown and expanded out of the Ohio area the human resource department has became regionalized and inconsistent. The Ohio HR department focuses primarily on strategic issues while the Chicago and Pittsburgh departments’ focus primarily on their own areas with a specialty in their previous brands. Unfortunately, the training program is limited to this narrow employee segment and is not available to the greater employee population. GC3 was the ability to capitalize on this competency by expanding this regions training program to apply the same concepts across the business (Franklin University, 2012).…
