so she’s forced to look at things a different way.
Celeste is a simple Los Angeles girl that has a hot boyfriend.
Thinking that she has everything in the world at the moment she gets caught up with fun. She gets punished for throwing a party when she thought that her parents left. She is not forced to leave her boyfriend and friends behind and go to Napa valley with her parents to work on the family vineyard. While she is there she meets a boy that she finds cute but annoying. She comes to know him more after being forced to work with him in transforming the dirt and rusted wine tasting room into something else. As much as she doesn’t wish to be with her parents or even near David she tries to get her way so she doesn’t have to put in any work towards the place. She gets her boyfriend to agree on coming up to visit her on her birthday but ending the night on them breaking up isn’t what she wanted to happen. She wants nothing from anyone. She just wants to get back to her normal life with her friends to enjoy her summer and to have things go back to the way they should be. But towards the end she dumps her boyfriend Brian and gets together with David realizing that she loves him so she tells him “David, you’re my true love, why did we wait so long to get together? I don’t care what the world says. Let’s defy them all, my darling”
(…..).
As David thinks of her as a snotty brat that is a rich girl with all she wants he doesn’t want to talk with her. But making a deal with his dad to help Celeste’s family reconstruct there vineyard he has no choice but to be near her. As he spends more time near her he starts to develop a crush on Celeste. Something about her catches his eye and makes him want her more. He spends most of the time working in the wine tasting room with repainting and cleaning. With him helping out her family his family gets invited to a dinner celebration for Celeste’s birthday. With David not wanting her to be upset he follows her to the bathroom and waits for her to come out. He says as she comes out “I'm staking out the bathroom to see if I can pick up chicks" (……). From this point on David is willing to do anything just to be with Celeste. He puts all of his energy into getting her to realize that he cares about her deeply.
The whole book is a battle for Celeste as she just wants to get her life back to normal and get away from her parents for the summer. She thinks that her life is horrible for being forced to stay with her parents away from her friends and boyfriend. She tries to disobey what her parents want her to do. Not working out the way she wants she starts to fall in love with the Napa Valley. With David not wanting to be there either they start to get things done for their parents. With another girl liking David he tries to leave it alone but it making Celeste jealous he goes along with it. Celeste then realizes that what was in her life is not what she needs. So she starts to switch everything up. She gets rid of everything that she thought was perfect and finds the simple things that she needs. David shows her that she has everything she needs and that he will be there for her all the time. They fall in love and head back to the town from where they live. Leaving there summer in Napa Valley until the next year.
