Throughout the poem, Khalifa uses imagery, diction, and end rhyme to convey emotion to the reader and tell his point. Khalifa shows that home is where the heart is by saying "And every road you take, will always lead you home," and the repetitive use of "when I see you again." the author saying "Damn, who knew?/ all the planes we flew/ good things we've been through/ that I'll be standing right here talking to you" emphasizes the authors memories of this person. The audience can infer that Khalifa's friend has past when he states, "So let the light guide your way" which the audience can refer to crossing over from the living to as Khalifa describes as a "better place". The audience can assume that the "better place" is heaven.
Overall the tone of the poem is hopeful for Khalifa's friend to find happiness where ever they may be. Khalifa indirectly tells the audience to remember the good times and never let them go.
