Food is an important part of Egyptians everyday lives. They would eat two main meals a day with food choices that vary depending on their status, that would always contain of bread and wine with sides of vegetables and fruits. All statuses have meals that contain bread, wine, and some fruits and veggies but the higher status egyptians have more to eat and have a larger variety of food. The lower status would get payed less bread and wine per day and the royal would get payed many loafs of bread and many jugs of wines per day. Egyptians would also get extra food such as vegetables and fruits which are not given to them. Food is like their way of money. The lowest amount of food ever given as payment was about one loaf of bread and two full jugs of wine a day. The average Egyptian would get about eight loaves a day with three jugs of wine. During the planting season, they would plant fruits and vegetables such as wheat, barley, vegetables, figs, melons, pomegranates and vines. they would also grow crops called flax which they would then turn into linen to write with and make clothing. They also grew vegetables such as onions, leeks, cabbages, beans, cucumbers and lettuce. To water the crops, they would use machines that they made called a shaduf. What a shaduf would do is while using a large pole, a bucket, and a rope, the egyptians would attach the bucket to the rope, and attach the rope to the bucket. The pole would be dipped in the to the water with the bucket attached. As you pull the pole up, the bucket will get closer to you.
