Greek art is split up into four periods: ancient, byzantine, modern and contemporary. An example of ancient art is the Parthenon. The Parthenon can be a place to pray or it would be a safe place at times of invasions. The Parthenon is actually a place to thank and worship the Goddess Athena for helping the Greeks defeat the Persian empire. Famous Greek art is mostly sculptures, vase paintings, and architecture. They make art on what they are interested in like places, people, landscapes. Van Gogh’s painting, “The Starry Night” is a landscape painting of an area in the night, unlike Greeks, the Greeks painted on vases or pots. Whatever they painted was an event that happened. Modern artists also paint many abstract or self-portrait paintings.
Modern art can now be done in a tablet, P.C, laptop, phone, etc.. Actually, there are some modern day paintings that remind me of Ancient Greece. Example, Henri Matisse’s “Dance (1)” is like a picture of a Greek vase because on the picture of the vase, there were people dancing and on “Dance (1)” there were people dancing too. Many artists are alike because of the way they pain or their way of painting, even if they are from another time period.
My favorite part in my research is when I was reading about different artists and their paintings/work because I like to call myself an artist and I am trying to find like, inspiration so that I can draw and later on paint something, and look ink at the other paintings, sculptures, and buildings, it gave me something to draw!
