People in Ancient Sumer had to work hard for their rights and to be part of the society. Ancient Sumerians were very religious, God was the centre of their lives and everything was based around their religions. They also had many laws, given to the ancient king by the Sun God Shamash. They were a very practical and advanced society, they learnt how to live in their surroundings and created a large civilization.

The Ziggurat temple shown in source 3 was a monument built to worship the Gods. The Diorite Stele was a stone with around two hundred and eighty laws carved into it. All of these laws had fair punishments if they were broken such as if someone floods their neighbours corn fields, they have to pay back the person with the amount of corn they lost (source 2). A more severe law from source 2 is “If a slave says to his master: "You are not my master," if they convict him his master shall cut off his ear.” The Sumerians had strict laws given them by the Sun God.
For their time, the Ancient Sumerians were a large practical and advanced society. Source 1 shows that the Sumerians were advanced because they taught themselves how to write and speak their own dialect. If they hadn’t of discovered how to write, their laws wouldn’t be clear and people would never remember what they were. The laws were practical and fair which shows the Sumerians were an advanced society. They build their houses out of mud bricks (shown in source 3), made from resources that were easy to find. Their houses had small windows and doors so it wasn’t too hot in the day and not too cold at
