People are hateful towards Andrea Yates, because some people believe she knew what she was doing, and should’ve stopped herself. Andrea Yates was mentally ill, she knew everything she was doing and shouldn’t have gotten out of prison. The reason she murdered her children was because of “insanity”. Andrea Yates should have to face prison time, and face the consequences with what she did. A common question is, that if she felt that she couldn’t handle having kids, then why did she continue to have them? Also, why she would decide to home school her children, knowing she couldn’t handle them? Or, why didn’t she go out and get a job to get away from her home, and hire a nanny or someone to help the family? After her fourth child, she was diagnosed with depression, so why would her and her husband insist on having another child that could make her depression worsen and make her become more isolated and want nothing to do with her kids? One’s personal opinion about Andrea Yates is that she truly didn’t love her kids, because if she truly loved her kids, as a mother she should never be able to hurt them in any way shape or form. Since, Andrea Yates knew what she was doing; she should’ve stopped herself and never allowed herself around her children, if she knew that she could not handle it. Also, Yates saying that she killed her children so God would accept them is outrageous. She said “they were going to go to hell because everything they did, they were sins.” She realized she wasn’t an acceptable mother, she wanted to and attempted to self-harm on multiple occasions. Also, blame has been put on her husband, Rusty, and the doctors that she was seeing. Blame falls on her husband, because even though he knew how ill she was and how she was so closed off with everyone, he still allowed her to be alone with their children. He should’ve learned that his wife was dangerous when she
