She was a member of the National Honor Society and captain of the Swim team, and finished second in her high school graduating class of 1982. From high school she then worked at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center from 1986 to 1994. She married Rusty Yates in 1933, who was a disciple of preachers Michael Peter Woroniecki.
