Stages of Critical Thinking
Part 1: Stages of Critical Thinking
Complete the matrix by identifying the four beginning stages of critical thinking as detailed in Critical Thinking.
Stages of critical thinking
Stage description
The Unreflective Thinker
Unaware of significant problem in our thinking. Have no useful conception of what thinking entails.
The Challenged Thinker
We are faced with significant problems in our thinking.
Beginning Thinker
Try to improve but without regular practice.
The Practicing Thinker
Regularly practice and advance accordingly.
Part 2: Your Thinking
Write a 75- to 150-word explanation of your current level of critical-thinking development, and explain why you placed yourself at that stage.
Sometimes I feel as though I’m more in stage 1 the Unreflective Thinker. Although I think, I’m unaware of how my thinking is structured or how to asses and improve it. At times when I experience problems in thinking, I feel as though I lack the skills to identify and fix the problems. Take my job for example, when dealing with irate customers I take a step back and look at it from their perspective; however, I feel as though I lack the confidence to help the customers fix their problems. There are also times when it’s busy and short drivers, I have to come up with a decision that requires me to think things through before making a final decision. Since I am a dispatcher, it is up to me to ensure the drivers arrive at their destination within twenty minutes and ensure all drivers get their turn at running calls.
