George Orwell’s classic novel, Animal Farm, unravels the events of the animals of Manor Farm rebelling against the humans, hoping to get to freedom. Many of the characters of this novel relate to actual people in the Russian Revolution and also the plot itself is similar to the Revolution. The idea of communism and people such as Karl Marx and Joseph Stalin are very well similar of the ideas and characters in this novel. The only twist is that the whole story is portrayed by animals instead of actual humans. George Orwell’s novel, Animal Farm, reflects the time period and events of the Russian Revolution in many different ways. In the novel, Animal Farm, Mr. Jones treated his farm animals very poorly and didn’t do much to keep all of them healthy (Orwell 15). He is mostly very cruel towards the animals, but he can sometimes be kind. This character in the novel relates to Czar Nicholas II. He was sometimes brutal with his opponents, but kind when we wanted to be (LitChart). Also, Old Major relates to Karl Marx in many different ways. Old major taught Animalism, which in the book relates to communism, which is what Karl Marx invented (Lamont). Karl Marx believed that the “workers of the world unite” and Old Major believed that workers do the work (Lamont). These concepts are quite similar. Marx died before the Russian Revolution and Old Major died before the revolution.
The main leaders of the Animal Farm, Snowball and Napoleon, are each related to two of the main leaders of the Russian Revolution. Snowball very much values the ideals of the revolution. Snowball is related to Leon Trotsky; both leaders looked out for their citizens and wanted the best for them. Sadly, Snowball was chased away by Napoleon’s terrifying dogs (Orwell 58). Just like Snowball, Lean Trotsky was chased away also by secret police (Lamont). On the other hand, Napoleon is directly related to Joseph Stalin. Napoleon very well cares about the rebel against
